Seattle Children's External Affairs team champions hope, cures, and care for children in the Pacific Northwest through engagement with policymakers, communities, and decisionmakers across the Washington, Montana, Alaska, and Idaho (WAMI) region. The External Affairs Manager for Communications and Advocacy is responsible for visioning, leading, and driving advocacy, communications, and coalition strategic engagement across External Affairs. The Manager is a deft communicator, with a strong understanding of advocacy and communications tools to support strategic and innovative communications methods. They are passionate about leading key strategic initiatives, crafting compelling communication, and driven to enhance, build, and create the best-in-class communications and advocacy strategy. Requires extensive travel throughout the Puget Sound region, and attendance at after-hours work events and occasional weekend travel and events. Occasional travel throughout WA state and the broader WAMI region. In-office work is expected to be a routine component of the work. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least seven (7) years experience within an agency, large healthcare system, or large non-profit organization. Experience managing vendors and contracts. Experience planning, implementing, and managing complex programs and projects. Experience with budget management. Experience strategizing and implementing improvements in processes and organization. Experience communicating complex results and outcomes to a wide range of stakeholders. A self-starter who can work with minimal oversight. An excellent communicator, with experience communicating with senior level decisionmakers and diverse communities. Superb writing skills. Required Credentials N/A. Essential Functions Serve as logistical point for all external-focused on-site events, such as hosting legislators, policy roundtables, openings, etc.

Lead without authority within and across teams to lead and deliver results on complex projects.

Build and maintain cooperative relationships with key stakeholders across the enterprise, other partner institutions, and throughout the community.

In collaboration with leadership, build out an external strategic engagement plan, including- but not limited to alignment between government affairs priorities and community health needs assessment; prioritization of coalition engagement; priority of engagement of underrepresented communities.

Participate and serve as a representative on task forces, committees, coalitions, councils, and forums that inform about External Affairs priorities.

Track media coverage on key relevant issues and develop tools for internally and externally disseminating relevant information.

Develop, maintain, and improve EA internal and external web presence, including social media.

Provide leadership through the development, coordination, implementation, and articulation of Seattle Children’s health policy community health advocacy priorities.

Act as an enterprise/community liaison through regular accountable contact (one-on-one meetings and regularly scheduled external meetings or events) with neighbors, community stakeholders, non-profit organizations, and assigned groups.

In collaboration with team leadership, develop, stand-up, and maintain an on-going advocacy strategy.

Carefully document, organize, and develop tools for managing external contacts.

Develop talking points, one pagers and other key messaging material to effectively convey our messaging to an array of advocacy voices.

Compensation Range $104,797.00 - $157,195.00 per year Salary Information This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
