This growth offers an opportune time to create a new position,

Director of Advancement & Communications . Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director supports the advancement strategies, donor cultivation, and stewardship, major and planned giving initiatives, campaign planning, Annual Fund appeals, grants, and sponsorships for programs and special projects. The Director of A&C manages the marketing, communications, and development functions of the organization. The Director supports and collaborates with staff, various external constituencies, partners, and stakeholders. The Director of A&C fosters relationships with Board members to advance organizational goals and promote advocacy. Core Responsibilities: ● As we expand, the Director of A&C needs to establish a clear link between program development and resource development and build a communications strategy that significantly increases awareness and support of RJ in the state, while also providing greater resources to RJP Maine. ● Plan, budget, and secure funding for a communications and constituency development program for implementation in FY 2027-a campaign to weave RJ into the fabric of our lives together in Maine. Advancement: ● Identify and prioritize constituencies essential to program operations and expansion and develop strategies to build awareness and secure relationships that yield political and financial support. Fundamentally, within six months of assuming the position, the Director of A&C needs to write a case for the support of restorative justice to our constituencies and the broader community. ● Responsible for the annual appeal and meeting or exceeding the yearly giving goals for the organization and donor records management. ● Assist the Executive Director in writing grant applications, records of grant award cycles, funding requirements, and reporting procedures. ● Deepening relationships with the board and the existing individual donor base and leveraging those relationships to expand the number and increase the level of giving from individual donors and volunteers. This includes expanding direct appeals, developing new and existing communications, and organizing events and gatherings. ● Works directly in cultivating and stewarding relationships with a broad range of people in the community and with members of the Board of Directors. The position involves a high degree of accountability and confidentiality regarding donor prospect and stewardship activity. Communications: ● Develops and leads the communications strategy, including a timeline, and develops copy for appeals, newsletters, website, social media, media relations, donor communications, and external communications. ● Develops a case for support for restorative justice using quantitative and qualitative data, including ethical storytelling. ● And other responsibilities as assigned by the executive director. Basic Qualifications: The responsibilities of the Director of Advancement & Communications require demonstrated success in generating contributed revenue for organizational initiatives through individual, corporate, government, and foundation giving. Regular advancement contact (both written and verbal) with donors, trustees, staff, media, and the community require that the incumbent possess excellent written and oral communication, as well as strong interpersonal skills. And brings: • Demonstrated experience in advancement, fundraising, and donor engagement. • Knowledge and experience with ethical storytelling. • A creative, positive, and energetic force to their work, with skill, commitment, and humor. • Experience in a leadership role, contributing to a team decision-making process. • Talent for working productively and cooperatively with colleagues, partners, and the public. • Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale, complex projects and maintain schedules and deadlines. • Strengths include using technology, managing databases, and employing social networking resources. • Ability to supervise the design and production of print and online messaging for various media. • Keen awareness of internal and external customer needs and wants. • Strong service orientation and demeanor to provide high-level service within a diverse community. • Demonstrated ability to develop successful proposals for grants as well as supervise and participate in grant writing. • Ability to prioritize work and problem solve to accomplish competing objectives while meeting deadlines is required. • Self-starter who is highly skilled at organizing work, keeping track of details, and following through all work to completion. • Strong listening and empathy skills required. • Demonstrated success in fostering collaborative relationships and coalitions required. • Demonstrated facilitation, organizational, computer and communication skills required. Preferred Qualifications: • Knowledge of restorative justice practices, principles, and mindset. Public relations, advertising, and/or marketing background and experience. • Experience working with individuals experiencing challenges due to trauma, poverty, substance abuse, and/or mental health conditions. Hours & Pay: This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, remote and onsite position, usually scheduled to work Monday through Friday. Occasional travel will be required. Pay is up to 75K and commensurate with experience. Benefits & Other Details: Excellent benefits package includes health, dental, SIMPLE IRA, paid vacation and sick time, and paid leave.
