Civil/Structural Design Lead
position in Southern California. About the Position In this role, you will apply your knowledge of civil and structural design principles to: Lead the civil and structural design development and drawing production for permitting and construction, including: Steel structures such as pipe and cable tray supports, canopies, equipment and access platforms, stairs and walkways, industrial buildings, pipe bridges Foundations for electrical and mechanical equipment, buildings, tanks, vessels, light poles, supports, platforms, etc. Design grading, drainage, and site development solutions. Collaborate with structural engineers and other disciplines (project management, piping, mechanical, electrical, control systems) to develop comprehensive solutions for multi-disciplinary projects. This position offers a flexible 9/80 work schedule with a hybrid work arrangement supporting SPEC's Fountain Valley office. Responsibilities Your core duties may include: Leading civil and structural design development for simple projects, managing designers and drafters as needed. Supporting Principal Civil & Structural Designers on larger, complex projects. Conducting site visits to gather data and verify existing facilities and project requirements. Creating clear construction drawings for ground improvements, grading, drainage, foundations, and structural supports. Organizing construction documents from start to finish with minimal guidance. Assisting in developing design labor estimates for new projects. Monitoring project budgets, schedules, and change orders. Managing multiple tasks and attending coordination meetings. Performing quality control reviews of construction documents. Maintaining professional relationships with clients. Skill Requirements Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in AutoCAD is required. Willingness to learn new skills and take on greater responsibilities. Experience with structural construction is required. Ability to work in a 3-D CAD environment, with proficiency in Civil 3D, Revit, Plant 3D, AVEVA E3D strongly preferred. Experience with Navisworks, Infraworks, and MicroStation is desirable. Ability to visit project sites for data collection and inspections, with occasional travel. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record are required. Experience and Education Requirements 10+ years of experience designing steel structures, foundations, grading, and drainage projects. Experience in energy infrastructure is preferred. Engineering consulting experience is preferred. Knowledge of structural and civil design codes and regulations. Formal training in civil and structural design, such as trade school, associate degree, or equivalent experience. Job Type: Full-time
