Centeye, a compact team based in Washington, DC, is at the forefront of creating low size, weight, and power (SWAP) vision systems, primarily for robotics applications with a focus on small/nano Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) or "drones" and for smart textiles. We are seeking to expand our dynamic team with one, possibly two new hires, who will contribute to multipl exciting. We welcome full-time applicants but are open to considering part-time employees or graduate students in a cooperative education arrangement. We offer extremely flexible hours and anticipate a hybrid work arrangement, based in the Washington, DC metro area. Project 1: Enhancing Autonomy for Small/Nano UAS. This project is centered around imparting advanced autonomy to small/nano UAS using Centeye-developed neuromorphic sensors. You will have the opportunity to participate in a diverse range of activities, including simulating an autonomous nano drone in a virtual environment, testing and integrating our new vision chips and sensors, implementing new sensor hardware, and developing new sensing and control algorithms through both simulation and live experiments. Project 2: Building a Marsupial System. In this project, we aim to construct a marsupial system where a larger UAS carries a fleet of smaller UASs. Activities will involve integrating autopilots, flight control units, and other computing modules with Centeye sensors, implementing mesh wireless networks, and executing take-off, docking, and pursuit methods. Project 3: Embedded Vision for Smart Textiles. In this project we are constructing extremely small vision sensors for integration within smart textiles. Activities will involve testing image sensors, assembling and testing cameras, and implement post-processing image processing. All projects will involve lab and field testing, providing valuable hands-on experience and direct interaction with stakeholders. Please note that due to our work nature and clientele (e.g. US Government Contracts), only US Citizens or Permanent Residents can be considered for these positions. We regret that H1 or F1 type visa holders cannot be hired for this position. Qualifications: While possessing specific skills is desirable, our emphasis is on candidates' ability to learn, adapt, and integrate new skills across disciplines. Desirable qualifications include: • A BS, MS, or PhD (MS and PhD preferred) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering. Other technical degrees with a strong mathematical/analytical foundation may also be considered if you have relevant prior experience. • Evidence that you enjoy engineering! Note that we count personal projects as experience. • Comfort and enjoyment in engaging with both hands-on tasks and theoretical analytical work. Please ensure your resume reflects appropriate experience. • Adeptness at cross-disciplinary work. • Technical experience that includes a combination of the following: image processing, computer vision, control theory, neuromorphic engineering, AI/ML/neural networks, robotics, autonomous platform operation and repair, embedded systems, wireless networks, electronics, board design, chip design, field testing, and other relevant topics. We don't expect candidates to have experience in all areas mentioned. An enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn new things and engage in diverse activities are paramount. Salary: Compensation is commensurate with your experience and educational background and will be based on salary surveys from resources like salary.com or similar. To apply: The Applicant, and only the Applicant, must send their resume/CV, and any other relevant information to recruiting2508@centeye.com. This is the ONLY way to apply. If you are responding to a job posting on Linked-In or some other paid platform, then as a courtesy please also submit your resume to them to ensure they get credited. Note that we will not check those submissions. We will only review what arrives at the above email. Seniority level
