Job Summary
As a Senior Fund Accountant, you will co-lead the financial reporting and fund accounting operations for real estate investment funds, with a focus on SFR assets. You will work with a team of accountants to drive process improvements, and ensure accurate, timely, and compliant reporting for internal and external stakeholders. This role requires strong technical knowledge, leadership capabilities, and the ability to collaborate across departments including Investments, Asset Management, and Investor Relations.
The position is based out of Magnolia Capital's HQ in Chicago, IL.
Essential Job Functions
Lead the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for real estate investment funds and property-level financials, ensuring compliance with GAAP or IFRS. Oversee the calculation and review of net asset value (NAV) and ensure accuracy across all reporting periods. Manage the preparation of acquisition and disposition proration files and ensure timely and accurate integration with fund-level financials. Supervise the mapping and uploading of ETL files across multiple accounting systems, ensuring data integrity and consistency. Review and approve journal entries, accruals, and allocations related to fund income, expenses, and distributions. Ensure accuracy in general ledger maintenance and account reconciliations, including cash, investment, and intercompany accounts. Oversee the preparation and delivery of investor capital account statements and quarterly investor reports. Serve as a senior point of contact for investor queries, ensuring accurate and timely dissemination of financial and tax-related information. Partner with the Investments team to oversee valuation processes for fund assets, including derivatives and other complex instruments. Direct the monitoring of fund cash flows and oversee the development of forward-looking cash projections to support capital activity and operational needs. Collaborate with Asset Management to evaluate and monitor property-level performance, budgets, and variances. Provide strategic financial support to leadership through ad hoc analysis and special projects. Ensure adherence to fund governing documents, loan covenants, and relevant regulatory and compliance requirements. Lead the audit process, including coordination with external auditors and preparation of supporting documentation. Identify and implement opportunities for increased efficiency in reporting and accounting operations. Lead initiatives related to new system integrations, process automation, and policy development. Mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement. Set team goals, conduct performance reviews, and provide professional development opportunities.
Education And Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, required, CPA designation is preferred. 5-7 years of experience in fund accounting, real estate accounting, or public accounting with a focus on investment funds. Familiarity with real estate investment structures, including joint ventures, REITs, and private equity funds. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi, Realpage) and Microsoft Excel. Strong understanding of financial reporting standards (GAAP/IFRS). Strict attention to detail. High degree of confidentiality required. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment. Ability to meet stringent deadlines in a fast paced, results-oriented environment. Ability to think strategically and solve problems. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Base Salary Range
The expected base salary range for this position is between $90,000 and $95,000. The actual salary offered may differ based on several factors, such as education and experience. Additionally, this role is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus.

Job Summary
