As a Materials Reliability Engineer, you will identify high risk failure modes at material level, especially early in the design life cycle, and collaborate with design engineering teams to reduce the risk. You will develop new stress conditions based on material physics and expected user behaviors, identify and implement necessary equipment and specifications that are critical to validating material performance and product reliability, and assess product-facing reliability through stress test data and material understanding. Finally, you will support failure analysis, provide design direction based on your evaluation of test data and failure root cause understanding. You will also support vendor testing by traveling and collaborating with global teams to implement novel solutions.To be successful in this role, your ability to establish and maintain interdepartmental relationships is essential. Roughly 60% of your effectiveness stems from exercising influence over the design team to help you implement solutions. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in technical field (engineering, physics, etc) with 3+ years of industry experience Deep understanding of materials science including mechanical, electrical, and optical behavior of materials Experience working in a lab environment with focus on understanding root cause of material failures Experience with Failure Mode Effects Analysis and reliability prediction modeling Proficiency in statistical data analysis and the ability to communicate your results clearly to others Experience in investigating the physics of failure through efficient selection of analytical techniques Ability to identify root cause and recommended corrective action based on results from multiple data sources Collaborative attitude and ability to work cross-functionally effectively Ability to travel internationally without restriction Preferred Qualifications

M.S. or PhD in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent field 5+ years of relevant experience in an engineering role Statistical experience such as Weibull, JMP, or familiarity with accelerated test models Familiar with Failure Analysis techniques (Optical Microscopy, X-ray/CT, Scanning Electron Microscopy/Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy, etc.), and the ability to use failure analysis methodology to drive a root cause of failure At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $147,400 and $272,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
