The Washington Post is hiring a short-term contractor to support a mission-critical initiative in our creator tools space. This role blends product ownership with technical project management to help drive the execution of new tools and workflows used daily by our newsroom. You’ll work closely with editorial stakeholders, engineers, and designers to creatively problem-solve, sequence complex workstreams, and keep a high-impact project moving forward. This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments and is energized by collaboration, clarity, and real momentum. Responsibilities:
Serve as a key execution lead on a core newsroom tooling initiative
Translate goals and editorial workflows into actionable requirements
Drive cross-functional coordination
Collaborate with design and engineering to identify creative, efficient solutions
Prioritize and sequence work to deliver incremental value while managing dependencies
Ensure clarity and alignment across technical and non-technical stakeholders
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in product management, technical project management, or a hybrid role
Are comfortable working in newsroom, media, or internal tools environments
Excel at breaking down complex problems and guiding teams through ambiguity
Communicate clearly across disciplines and build trust with stakeholders quickly
Enjoy bringing structure, focus, and momentum to collaborative projects
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with editorial or publishing tools
Familiarity with iterative delivery and content workflows
