General Summary : Asa member of the Guest Services team, the Facilities Operator will maintain andclean the Zoo's buildings, grounds, and guest areas. The Facilities Operator isresponsible for acting as one of the trainers for the daily operationscustodial staff at the Zoo. Thisposition will report to the AssistantDirector of Park Operations and Facilities. Additionally, the FacilitiesOperator will support the Zoo's conservation, sustainability, education, andDEAI (Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion) goals.
Essential Functions :
Primary Functions :
- Interact in a consistentlypleasant and helpful manner to fellow employees, guests, vendors, and other guestsof the Zoo and demonstrate the highest standards of internal and externalcustomer service;
- Act as a lead trainer for thedaily operations custodial staff at the Zoo to ensure maximum guest service;
- Maintain sanitary conditionsof the non-public and public restrooms within the zoo grounds;
- Order janitorial andbathroom supplies, store and stock supplies, and distribute appropriately;
- Stockspecified areas with necessary supplies on at least a weekly basis;
- Cleanall rooms and/or rental spaces as assigned, including walls, floors andwindows;
- Sweep,mop, strip wax, and buff floors, sweep and hose walkways;
- Removetrash from public areas, empty trashcans, and take debris to dump;
- Checklight bulbs periodically and replace as needed;
- Implementpest management strategies;
- Wearappropriate personal protective gear provided by the Zoo;
- Maintainknowledge of and comply with blood borne pathogens and zoonotic diseaseprevention protocols and procedures;
- Assistwith event setup and breakdown throughout the Zoo.
- Operatecompany truck and golf cart to successfully perform duties on campus
- Performminor grounds maintenance such as snow removal and spreading ice melt.
- Utilizesmall engine equipment as needed.
- Provideguests with information on all aspects of the Zoo experience such as exhibits,on-ground activities (including times and locations), routes through the Zoo,construction, shuttles, and membership information;
- Provide guest control,including challenging situations;
- Use a campus wide radiosystem to communicate information;
- Ensure guest safety at alltimes;
- Perform other duties asassigned; and,
- Adhere to all policies and proceduresof the Zoo.
- Responsible for keeping Managementfully updated on any issues that may occur during daily operations includingthe need for necessary repairs;
- Respond appropriately toguests' questions, comments, or concerns;
- Communicate with managementand coworkers by radio contact as needed following Zoo radio etiquette andprotocol at all times; and,
- Contact an appropriate staffmember necessary to resolve guest issues.
- Assistin training new and returning seasonal staff in policies and procedures,reinforce the training on an ongoing basis; and,
- Assistin maintaining accurate documentation in compliance with safety standards toinclude daily checklists, maintenance logs, and training hour logs.
Hospitality :
- Friendly and outgoing;
- Possess a positive andpatient attitude;
- Possess excellent verbalcommunication skills; and,
- Adaptabilityand willingness to work until the lastguest has left Zoo grounds each scheduled day.
- HighSchool Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum of six months relatedexperience and/or training;
- Prior custodial experiencepreferred; and,
- Required to possess a validdriver's license.
- Required to attend andcomplete an onsite ladder safety training course.
- Must be able to stand andremain active for an eight-hour shift;
- Mustbe able to walk large areas of the Zoo as needed;
- Must be able to work in anoutdoor weather environment in all seasons and weather, includingheat/humidity, cold temperatures, and/or wet conditions;
- Ability to work a flexibleschedule to include weekends, holidays, and special events; and,
- Must be able to exert up to50 pounds of force to lift, push, pull, carry, or otherwise move objects.
- Must be able to operate avariety of equipment including computer, telephone, two-way radio, andjanitorial equipment;
- Must be able to operate avariety of small engine and electric machines including but not limited to snow/leaf backpack blower, floor polisher, and rug cleaner;
- Must be able to usecleaning tools, hand tools, gardening tools, carpentry tools; and cleaningsupplies;
- Must be trained to useladder appropriately; and,
- Must be able to drive pick-uptruck and golf cart.
- Ability to work withindividuals from a wide variety of ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds;and,
- Ability to identify andresolve guest issues.
