Job Summary
Summary:
Keeps inside and outside of assigned building clean, neat and orderly (this includes sidewalks and parking lot).
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:
  1. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials,
and facilities.
  1. Ability to work in locations involving heights or confined spaces; to work indoors and
outdoors year-round in noisy, crowed environments, and inclement weather.
  1. Demonstrated skills using standard tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of the maintenance trade.
  1. Demonstrated knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in cleaning furniture, floors, walls, windows, light fixtures, and plumbing fixtures and in making routine repairs.
  1. Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions and demonstrate effective interpersonal skills.
  1. Ability to read and follow plans, directions, and lay-outs for maintenance projects.
  2. Ability to prioritize tasks.
  3. Ability to make estimates of time and material needed for efficient project completion.
  4. Ability to climb and work from scaffolding, ladders, and heights.
  5. Ability to engage in prolonged standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning and reaching.
  1. Ability to effectively perform simultaneous projects and initiatives while meeting multiple deadlines.
  1. High level of personal initiative and ability to work without close supervision.
  2. Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, shift work or holidays if necessary.
  3. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.

  5. Performs related duties as assigned by the principal in accordance with the district's policies and practices.
  1. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  2. Provides services to ensure a safe, secure and healthy work and learning environment at the school.
  1. Demonstrates a sound working knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in cleaning floors, walls, windows, light fixtures and plumbing fixtures.
  1. Performs custodial work that ensures an efficient and effective balance between operation and preventive custodial services for the schools.
  1. Performs duties in a courteous and professional manner.
  2. Scrubs, mops, waxes, and polishes floors according to established schedules and procedures.
  3. Demonstrates skill, safety, and knowledge when operating equipment and using materials to care for lawns, plants, floors, furniture, and fixtures
  1. Uses proper safety equipment as appropriate when performing maintenance duties.
  2. Stores, uses, and disposes of chemicals, cleaners, and products efficiently, safely, and in accordance with established procedures and instructions.
  1. Delivers supplies to offices and classrooms.
  2. Moves, sets up, re-arranges, or removes furniture as directed.
  3. Replaces light bulbs and ballasts where needed.
  4. Ensures that debris is picked up, restrooms are cleaned, floors are swept and mopped, garbage receptacles are emptied, fixtures and furnishings are dusted, and facilities are made sanitary, safe, and attractive according to established schedules and industry standards.
  1. Follows an effective program of grounds-keeping and grass-cutting for assigned outdoor areas and school properties according to the assigned schedule.
  1. Assists in regular, routine inspection of buildings and grounds for safety hazards, repairs, or service and reports needs or solves issues according to established school system procedures.
  2. Follows established guidelines for dealing with emergency repair problems with efficiency.
  3. Maintains and reports inventory of materials and supplies as needed, and makes recommendations of supplies and equipment for purchase; includes supplies for bathroom tissue, hand towels, cleaners, deodorizers, and other necessary materials and supplies.
  1. Cooperates with other school system staff members in maintaining high standards in the maintenance program.
  2. Follows written and verbal instructions and communicates effectively with others (custodial staff, vendors, school staff, students, parents, community members).
  3. Uses effective collaboration skills to work as an effective team member.
  4. Engages in professional growth, ongoing training, and demonstrates professional ethics.
  5. Engages in required orientations, trainings, safety instruction, and meetings as required for effective job performance and/or advancement.
  1. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters
  2. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  1. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
  1. Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
  2. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  3. Properly uses and cares for tools, equipment, and material resources of the school system andeffectively supervises and monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory.
  1. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
  2. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
  3. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
  • Previous experience preferred
  • Must be able to work inside and outside
  • Must be able to operate a lawn mower, weed eater, power washer, and other outdoor equipment
  • Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations
TERMS : Seven (7) hours a day - Five (5) days a week - 202 Day Contract

  • Salary schedules are found on the main Escambia County Schools website,
  • Listed below are items that may be necessary to complete your employment process in order to compute your annual salary. It is your responsibility to provide us with this requested information in order to receive your accurate salary.
  • We need verification of previous public school teaching experience. Use the following information when requesting verification of experience from your past employment at other boards of education:
    • Within the state of Alabama, experience must be verified on Supplement EXP
    • Outside the state of Alabama, we must have a letter (on school district letterhead) or public school district form showing beginning and ending dates stating your years of service and position held while employed
    • Credit is awarded for public school experience only, private, parochial, or similar experience will not be accepted
    • Experience must be full time at least 50%-100% of the academic year
    • Administrative credit will be awarded only for experience in the same position, i.e., principal for principal position as stated in the salary schedule
    • Transfer Sick Leave: If you have sick leave from another state school system or from another state of Alabama agency, you must have a Sick Leave Transfer form sent from your previous employer to our Human Resources department
  • The Escambia County Schools awards a salary based on the highest degree earned, even if the degree is outside education. The degree must be verified on an official transcript & recognized by the Alabama State Department of Education.
