Position Summary
Perform a variety of tasks in support of Parks and Recreation Department recreation programing. Instruct and lead seasonal staff and volunteers assigned to the Bicycle Safety Program and other Recreation programs. Perform technical and complex tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility. Demonstrate an ability to educate and instruct people of all skill levels to increase their confidence and comfort with bicycle and recreation related programs.
This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis
High school diploma or GED; and
Two (2) years of experience in leading, guiding, participation and instruction in outdoor recreation, caving, cycling, mountain biking, rock climbing, running, skiing or related recreation activities.
Bicycle maintenance experience preferred.
Possession of a valid League Cycling Instructor (LCI) certification issued by the League of American Bicyclists preferred
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Must pass a background check, Tuberculosis (TB) test, and drug test.
Possession of a valid CPR and First Aid certificate within six (6) months from date of hire.
May work weekend shifts with odd days off.
Preferred Knowledge
  • Operational characteristics, services and activities of bicycle and recreation programs
  • Operational knowledge of City bicycle routes and trails
  • Recreation programming skills and safety compliance protocols
  • Skilled bicycle maintenance and repair practices and procedures
  • Applicable tools and equipment
  • Modern office methods and equipment including computers
  • Basic principles of supervision and training
  • Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
Preferred Skills & Abilities
  • Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word-processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Prepare clear and concise reports
  • Develop and conduct public presentations
  • Assemble, maintain and repair various types of bicycles
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public
  • Work in adverse weather conditions, and in difficult situations while maintaining a professional demeanor
  • Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
