Introduction To Role

Are you ready to make a difference in the world of rare diseases? As a Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr. MSL) at Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease, you'll be at the forefront of scientific innovation, strategically supporting our medical and scientific objectives throughout the product lifecycle. This field-based role involves engaging with Healthcare Practitioners (HCPs) and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), fostering collaboration opportunities, and mentoring other MSLs. With your established relationships and expertise, you'll navigate challenges and drive impactful HCP engagement plans. Accountabilities

You will be responsible for:

HCP relationship management

Evaluate your territory to identify and engage with HCPs and important centers of excellence. Develop and refine impactful HCP engagement plans aligned with strategic goals. Gain HCPs' trust by effectively communicating relevant scientific/medical information. Gather and disseminate HCP insights internally to inform medical strategy. Build strong working relationships in various external business settings.

Scientific knowledge and training

Stay current with scientific knowledge within assigned products and therapeutic areas. Support scientific exchange with external stakeholders as needed. Educate internal teams on relevant scientific information. Demonstrate understanding of real-world evidence and HEOR.

Research & Development

Understand clinical study design and protocols proficiently. Provide balanced clinical and scientific information to HCPs and stakeholders. Exhibit expertise in research outcomes for effective discussions with HCPs. Support externally sponsored research and clinical trials as appropriate.

US Healthcare system knowledge

Maintain knowledge of the US healthcare system's impact on the rare disease ecosystem. Build understanding of managed markets foundations. Acquire thorough understanding of information flow in managed care and government organizations.

Essential Skills/Experience

You will need to have:

Minimum Education

MD, PharmD, or PhD (in biological sciences strongly preferred) Clinical experience in a relevant therapeutic area OR track record of success as an MSL that can be referenced can be substituted for a doctoral degree

Minimum Experience

Industry experience (preferably >3 years)

Specific Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Has excellent communication skills (oral and written) Energetically embraces responsibilities and demonstrates the ability to achieve goals Has a strong personal initiative Functions well as part of a cross-functional team Exhibits excellent time management Able to work independently Demonstrates leadership skills and high-level job competencies Preferably experienced in relevant therapeutic areas relating to drugs in development, recently launched and marketed biologics/ therapies Must have shown considerable and consistent high performance as MSL and demonstration of appropriate independent decision-making skills

Desirable Skills/Experience

Additional Role Requirements

Office is home based. Travel within region 3-4 days per week with 1-2 office days per week Person should be able to travel minimum ~70% time Required travel to medical meetings, team meetings and other group meetings (including possible weekends, as dictated by conference schedule) Candidate is required to live within the territory
