Amazon Stores Security's Threat Detection (TD) team is looking for a highly motivated Applied Data Scientist to join our team!
As an Applied Data Scientist on TD, you will develop data pipelines and perform feature engineering to train and deploy sophisticated machine learning models and statistical methods to identify threats across petabyte-scale security data. You will research emerging attack patterns to build predictive models that proactively detect threats before they impact our customers. Working closely with Incident Response, Threat Hunting, Threat Intelligence, and Red team, you will translate threat intelligence into actionable detection algorithms and behavioral models. You'll innovate with the latest techniques in anomaly detection, machine learning, and AI to rapidly identify threats at scale while minimizing false positives. Your data science expertise will be instrumental in defending Amazon's customers against sophisticated and critical threats.
Your work will directly impact the security posture of one of the world's largest technology platforms, protecting customers and business operations through innovative data science applications in cybersecurity.
Key job responsibilities
Design and implement machine learning models for near-time threat detection across massive scale security datasets
Develop behavioral analytics and anomaly detection algorithms to identify previously unknown threats and attack patterns
Build statistical models that correlate multi-source security telemetry to enhance detection accuracy and reduce false positives
Research and prototype advanced analytics solutions using Machine Learning, deep learning, time-series analysis, and Generative AI for threat detection
Create data pipelines and feature engineering frameworks to process and analyze security data at petabyte-scale
Collaborate with security teams to translate attack patterns into detection models
Measure and optimize detection performance using statistical methods, A/B testing, and feedback loops
Provide analytical support during security incidents through rapid data analysis and threat modeling
Develop automated solutions using Python, SQL, and cloud technologies to scale detection capabilities
Present findings and model insights to drive security strategy decisions

Basic Qualifications
3+ years of building models for business application experience
PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience
Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using Unix/Linux
Experience in professional software development

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
