Within the Planning, Environmental Consenting, and Communities (PECC) practice are a team of dedicated environmental coordinators that provide critical support to our clients, helping them achieve the necessary environmental consents to construct and operate their projects. We currently have an opportunity for a Principal Environment Consultant to join the AtkinsRéalis Global Technology Centre (GTC) in Mumbai, India, to provide support, guidance, and mentorship to junior members of the team. The GTC PECC team primarily work on UK projects and the successful candidate will need to demonstrate knowledge and experience of UK environmental legislation, particularly in relation to Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). Opportunities to work on projects in other regions, such as the Middle East, Canada and others, may arise from time to time. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work across numerous infrastructure sectors including, but not limited to, highways, rail, energy, renewables, water, and master planning. There will also be an opportunity to support the growth of wider services including Planning and Stakeholder Engagement. Experience of working across multiple sectors would be advantageous. We are looking for an experienced individual with a proven track record of working in an Environmental Consultancy, and ideally some experience of team management. You will be able to work on your own initiative, have excellent communication skills, and strive to deliver high quality work. Mandatory Requirements 14-17 years’ experience in conducting EIA, and Environmental Desk Assessments, Environmental consenting and permitting, environmental management plans for Infrastructure projects. Field work experience will be preferable. A comprehensive understanding of environmental systems and the assessment methods for EIA. Commercial awareness including the ability to deliver a defined scope of work against agreed budgets and programme. Lead, implement and manage all aspects of environmental assessments for infrastructure development projects in accordance with UK environmental regulations. Develop commercial proposals for bids and enquiries and support junior staff to contribute to the bidding process. Effectively delegate tasks and activities to intermediate and junior staff and providing technical and supervisory guidance on assigned tasks. Assist with and, as necessary, taking a lead role in the development of proposals, qualification documents and other business development related activities. Post Graduate Degree qualified in a relevant engineering or science subject (e.g. geology, geosciences, chemistry, environmental science and hydrogeology). Organisation, collation and assessment of desk-based information as part of Desk Studies Have demonstrable ability to effectively communicate environment issues, approaches and solutions pragmatically with project managers, engineers, designers, and clients. Is capable of organising and managing large / strategic environmental projects. Can motivate, mentor, and provide guidance to junior members of the environmental team. Has excellent project management skills, including technical delivery, management of finances, client liaison and programme delivery on complex and/or multi-disciplinary projects. Combines excellent organisational, technical, numerical and communication skills to demonstrate logical thinking and concise reporting. Knowledge of QGIS is preferrable. Excellent working knowledge and demonstrable understanding of relevant planning and environmental legislation, and technical guidance and industry standards / best practice, particularly in relation to the preparation of EIAs. Working with the local and wider AtkinsRéalis teams across the UK. Providing technical support and mentoring to more junior members of the environmental team Undertake Continual Professional Development in accordance with requirements of chosen professional institute and work towards becoming chartered.
