Job Overview

Our AI Programs team works at the forefront of AI's impact on kids, families, and schools, and is focused on AI thought leadership, AI evaluations, AI literacy, and the creation of practical resources for families and educators.

The Professional Development Content Designer will lead the development of scalable, evidence-based professional development resources for educators who are navigating AI integration in K–12 settings. This includes the development and alignment of key Common Sense Media frameworks related to educational use of AI. This role is central to Common Sense Media's work to empower educators with the knowledge and tools needed to leverage AI safely, ethically, responsibly, and effectively in their classrooms.

Working collaboratively with our AI Programs team, this position will create and deploy coherent AI professional development rapidly and effectively, aligned to key Common Sense Media frameworks, across AI platforms and partnerships.

What You'll Do

PD Framework Development

Building on existing Common Sense Media frameworks and resources, design and create a comprehensive, platform-agnostic professional development framework that can be rapidly adapted across AI tools and partnerships. Develop and iterate on core educational resources, including AI mindsets, AI educator toolkits, and other best practices for understanding the role of AI in education and using it safely with staff and students. Create scalable course templates and modules that reduce course development time.

Course Development

In collaboration with the Senior Director, lead course development for central AI platform partnerships and future collaborations. Update and modernize existing courses to align with developments in the AI space. Collaborate with partner organizations to ensure that course content meets their specifications while maintaining Common Sense educational principles and our trusted, independent voice.

QA & Evaluation

Build, pilot, test, refine, and update professional development courses consistent with adult learning theory. Develop assessment strategies to measure educator learning outcomes and course effectiveness. Use feedback loops from educator participants to continually improve course quality and relevance.

Strategic Planning & Innovation

Identify gaps in current professional development offerings and recommend new courses or modules for AI professional development. Stay current with AI education trends, emerging tools, and evolving educator needs. Contribute to broader AI Programs strategy, particularly regarding educator empowerment and AI literacy initiatives.

Team Collaboration

Manage one Curriculum Fellow, when hired, to support the execution of course development and materials creation. Collaborate with the AI risk assessment team to ensure that PD content reflects current AI safety and effectiveness considerations. Support integration and alignment efforts with broader Education team initiatives and strategy.

What We're Looking For:

Education & Experience

Education: Master's degree in Education, Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, or related field. Experience: 6+ years of experience in direct service K–12 education, including at least 3+ years of designing and developing professional development programs for K–12 educators. AI/Technology Experience: Demonstrated experience with AI tools in K–12 contexts and understanding of their implications for teaching and learning. K–12 Adult Learning Expertise: Strong foundation in adult learning theory, professional development best practices, and educator engagement strategies specific to the K–12 space. Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with varying timelines and stakeholder requirements. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience creating educator-facing resources and materials.
