Job Summary: The Application Engineer will be responsible for the integration of the Transmission Assembly into various vehicle applications. This includes collaborating closely with manufacturing teams and end users (e.g., Vehicle Engineering, Calibration). The engineer ensures data accuracy across vehicle platforms, reviews change requests, generates compliance reports, and coordinates with Design Release Engineers (DREs) and cross-functional teams throughout vehicle programs and launches. This role involves critical decision-making that directly impacts transmission performance and application.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead all external interfaces between the transmission and the vehicle platform (packaging and functional requirements). Develop and manage the Applications Matrix, including all interface requirements for assigned programs and variants across multiple vehicle platforms. Coordinate packaging studies to ensure clearance requirements are met. Drive complex vehicle adaptation design studies and finalize specifications. Update and coordinate approvals for International Product Specification releases, Owner's Manuals, Compliance Reports, and Standards. Negotiate vehicle platform requirements based on product capabilities and limitations. Own and manage Transmission Technical Specifications (TTS), including application-specific parameters (e.g., torque, NVH, fuel economy, tire size, final drive ratio, mass). Define and monitor system- and sub-system-level functional objectives. Manage and coordinate external design changes requiring platform approval. Perform TOS as needed. Support pilot builds, EOL tests, VIN marking, and build issue resolutions. Lead Build Readiness tasks include instrumentation planning and dyno testing support. Coordinate COE assessments for bulletins and AT engineering responses. Oversee prototype hardware procurement and associated ED&D requirements. Manage BRT (Build Readiness Team) for prototype part orders. Serve as the primary point of contact for shipping and receiving parts/transmissions to/from suppliers.

Mandatory Skills & Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering (preferred). 5+ years of experience with transmission or driveline components at an OEM and/or Tier 1/Tier 2 supplier. Strong understanding of Powertrain, Engine, Transmission systems and operations. Excellent problem-solving, communication (verbal and written), and project management skills. Ability to lead multiple complex projects simultaneously. Willingness to travel to supplier and corporate transmission/vehicle assembly plants in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Solid knowledge of vehicle powertrain system adaptation - experience may include hands-on mechanic work, system durability testing, or transmission integration. Desired: Green Belt or Black Belt in DFSS. Experience in CAE/CFD for Powertrain structures. Demonstrated hands-on skills in technical projects (vehicle repair/modification, home projects, etc.). Strong knowledge of casting and injection molding processes. Familiarity with electric motors, specially manufacturing and quality processes for automotive use. Experience with DFMEA and DVP&R. High proficiency in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
