DevOps Platform Engineer

with demonstrated ability to support and enhance development of new technologies for our innovative MDA teams in support of emerging supercomputing technologies.

What You'll Get To Do:

As a DevOps Platform Engineer, you will have an opportunity to be a part of a technology development organization that is collaborative, open, transparent, team-oriented, and flexible, where continuous learning is encouraged, all within a culture of design. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive working in a secure, air-gapped environment where reliability, automation, and thoughtful implementation take priority.

You'll be hands-on with everything from tool automation to system observability, helping build a platform that enables internal development teams to work efficiently and securely within a disconnected environment.

Role and Responsibilities:

Support the MDA DevOps initiative with any program specific responsibilities allocated to the role to include:

Design, build, manage on-prem platform infrastructure using tools like Terraform, Ansible, and Puppet

Deploy and maintain Kubernetes clusters to support containerized applications with scalability, reliability, and security

Build and optimize CI/CD pipeline components in GitLab to streamline application deployment and testing workflows across various environments

Deploy and maintain robust monitoring, alerting, and observability tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, ELK) to enhance performance reliability and visibility

Automate incident management processes, including root cause analysis and self-healing mechanisms, to improve platform stability

Ensure compliance with security best practices throughout the platform and processes

Collaborate with development, Information Assurance, and IT teams to align infrastructure with platform requirements

Stay up to date on emerging technologies and trends to incorporate relevant advancements into the DevOps Platform

This position is contingent upon clearance.

Basic Qualifications for Staff DevOps Platform Engineer:

Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 12+ years of relative experience; Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 10+ years of relative experience; PhD and 7+ years of relative experience.

Strong understanding of Linux systems, automation frameworks, and networking fundamentals

Experience working in an air-gapped or highly regulated environment

Experience leading the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and automated DevOps frameworks

Proficient in Kubernetes cluster deployment, management, and scaling

Strong knowledge of automation and scripting tools

Experience administering, integrating, and maintaining the following DevOps tools: GitLab, Nexus Repository, Vault, Container registries

Experience working with Agile methodologies and practices

Strong communication and collaboration abilities with a focus on continuous learning

Proven problem-solving skills: critical thinking, effective troubleshooting - identify, analyze, and effectively resolve challenges by using a logical approach

Willingness and ability to work onsite full-time

This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications for Staff DevOps Engineer:

Willingness to learn transformational computing technology concepts and domain appropriate for a lead engineering role

Experience with Cameo Modeling and MBSE practrices

Experience with Data engineering and processing pipelines

Experience with test automation and instrument control

Experience administering, integrating, and maintaining Data Services as part of the platform toolchain

Experience with Authentication and Authorization: Key cloak, OpenSSL, PKCS12, X.509, AD/LDAP.

Active DoD clearance per business requirements.

Salary Range: $131,100.00 - $196,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
