Navy Integrated Training Environment (NITE) System Administrator - Nightwatch

The Navy Integrated Training Environment (NITE) System Administrator - Nightwatch ensures the administration, maintenance, and cybersecurity defense of all client and server infrastructure on the Navy Enterprise Tactical Training Network (NETTN). This is an overnight/night watch role, providing 247 coverage to support enterprise-wide modeling and simulation applications. You'll own overnight operations, deploying, monitoring, and hardening Windows and Linux systems that power enterprise-wide modeling and simulation applications demanding strong independent initiative during off-hours and seamless coordination with daytime teams to maintain mission-critical operations. This position follows a Panama shift schedule (6 PM-6 AM), rotating long and short weeks to provide continuous coverage. Why This Role Matters: Ensures continuous availability and security of NETTN infrastructure during off-hours. Rapidly detects and resolves overnight incidents, minimizing downtime for training exercises. Sustains DoD cybersecurity compliance (STIGs) around the clock, protecting sensitive Navy data. Bridges the operational handoff between night and day shifts, preserving institutional knowledge and readiness. What You Will Do: Administer and secure Windows Server environments (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP) in an overnight operational posture. Manage Group Policy Objects (GPOs), DHCP reservations, patching, and system configurations for Windows and Linux endpoints. Monitor server and workstation health, performance, and security during night hours; perform on-the-fly troubleshooting and escalation. Deploy, configure, and maintain virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware) and VDI solutions after hours. Harden operating systems per DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and apply emergency security patches. Produce and update technical documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures for night-watch operations. Coordinate closely with daytime shift teams to ensure seamless transition and knowledge transfer. Provide timely customer communication and status updates for all overnight service tickets. of relevant experience Required Credentials: U.S. citizenship Current or active DoD Secret security clearance (must be maintained) CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent/higher certification satisfying DoD 8570.1-M IAT-II requirements Preferred Requirements: Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field Microsoft Certified: MCSA or MCSE; CompTIA Linux+; or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) Hands-on experience with Windows 10 and RHEL 7/8 desktop operating systems Proven track record of patch management for Microsoft servers and workstations Experience deploying and managing VMware vSphere, Horizon View, or similar platforms Familiarity with VDI protocols (PCoIP, Blast) and VDI troubleshooting Strong analytical and technical troubleshooting skills tailored to off-hours operations Excellent written and verbal communication, with a customer-focused mindset Physical Requirements: Job performance will normally require only minor lifting and carrying of boxes of records or equipment. Ability to remain alert and productive throughout the night shift.
