Description of Work The City of Monticello is currently accepting applications for a full-time Liquor Store Clerk for our municipal liquor store Hi-Way Liquors in Monticello. This position requires availability to work nights, weekends, and a holiday rotation. The City of Monticello offers a generous benefits package including free single health and dental coverage, immediate PTO, 12 paid holidays, and enrollment in PERA retirement. General Statement of Duties: Performs all duties required in a retail sales environment; assists management with opening and closing procedures; and provides limited work direction to part-time staff. Supervision Received: Works under the general and technical supervision of the Liquor Store Manager and work direction of the Assistant Liquor Store Manager. Supervision Exercised: Provides limited work direction to part-time staff and monitors their performance.
Responsibilities ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Assists management in all aspects of daily retail operations; provides supervision of part-time staff, monitoring and reporting performance issues, and providing limited work direction in management's absence; reports any issues directly to management. Provides excellent customer service to patrons by greeting them and assisting with locating product, making recommendations, recording special item requests, etc. Performs check out duties at the register. Accurately rings products, takes payment and makes change; checks ID as required on alcohol and on all tobacco sales; assists customers in carrying product out to their vehicle as needed. Helps to receive product orders by checking in deliveries from vendors and physically stocking inventory on the sales floor and in the back room or cooler. Monitors inventory and notifies management promptly of quantity discrepancies, pricing issues, etc. Assists in writing weekly orders and may work directly with sales reps in management's absence, or as requested. Performs opening and closing procedures including reconciling cash drawers and safe; prepares bank deposits and daily finance reports in the manager's absence or as requested; may be required to make bank deposits and/or deliver paperwork to City Hall. Participates in yearly physical inventory. Reports liquor-related violations to management or appropriate law enforcement agency in management's absence. SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in building product or seasonal displays and creating signage. Empties trash cans, cleans windows, sweeps, vacuums, and mops floor as needed. Operates cardboard baler and empties as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned. Miscellaneous INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS (RELATIONSHIPS) This position interacts on a regular basis with liquor store personnel sharing specialized knowledge and providing work direction and limited supervision to part-time staff in the manager's absence. This position interacts frequently with the public responding to questions and providing specialized knowledge and interacts with vendor reps, delivery drivers and suppliers on a weekly basis exchanging information about products. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of store products and their location within the store. Considerable ability to operate a computerized register system and to accurately accept payment and make proper change. Considerable ability to deal courteously with the public and provide excellent customer service. Considerable ability to use judgment, tact, and discretion in making or refusing sales based on age, state of inebriation, and/or possibility of fraudulent activity. Availability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. Working ability to deal with difficult patrons, monitor operations and detect and prevent theft. Working ability to perform both independently and as a member of a team. WORK ENVIORNMENT
Work is performed in a standard retail environment, on the retail floor and in the stockroom and cooler. Work may be performed inside a cooler that is approximately 40F degrees. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO PERFORM THIS JOB
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Hear and speak effectively to communicate in person and on the phone with the public and employees. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and to bend, stoop, reach, and stretch when making displays, cleaning and stocking. Minimum and Preferred Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two (2) years of retail experience, OR one (1) year of experience in off-sale liquor operations. Must be 18 years or older. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Wine and Spirits knowledge preferred.
