With 12 ministries and access points across Indiana and Illinois, Franciscan Health is one of the largest Catholic health care systems in the Midwest. Franciscan Health takes pride in hiring coworkers that provide compassionate, comprehensive care for our patients and the communities we serve. Operate Equipment Maintain and calibrate radioisotope and laboratory equipment. Prepare, administer, and measure radioactive isotopes in therapeutic, diagnostic, and tracer studies utilizing a variety of radioisotope equipment. Detect and map radiopharmaceuticals in patients' bodies, using a camera to produce photographic or computer images. Calculate, measure and record radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals received, used and disposed, using computer and following physician's prescription. Measure glandular activity, blood volume, red cell survival, and radioactivity of patient, using scanners, Geiger counters, scintillometers, and other laboratory equipment. Provide Direct Patient Care Gather information on patients' illnesses and medical history to guide the choice of diagnostic procedures for therapy. Explain test procedures and safety precautions to patients and provide them with assistance during test procedures. Administer radiopharmaceuticals or radiation to patients to detect or treat diseases, using radioisotope equipment, under direction of physician. Position radiation fields, radiation beams, and patient to allow for most effective treatment of patient's disease, using computer. Radioactive Materials Prepare stock solutions of radioactive materials and calculate doses to be administered by radiologists. Prepare stock radiopharmaceuticals, adhering to safety standards that minimize radiation exposure to workers and patients. Subject patients to radiation. Execute blood volume, red cell survival, and fat absorption studies following standard laboratory techniques. Add radioactive substances to biological specimens, such as blood, urine and feces, to determine therapeutic drug or hormone levels. Dispose of radioactive materials and store radiopharmaceuticals, following radiation safety procedures. Film Images and Recording Produce a computer-generated or film image for interpretation by a physician. Process cardiac function studies, using computer. Record and process results of procedures. Collaboration Collaborates on patient medical issues with the physician to determine protocol and procedure. Nuclear Medicine Completes all exams, procedures, therapies in nuclear medicine; obtaining the most optimal images and evaluates, processes and submits for physician interpretation according to policy and protocol. Patient Records Confirms patient identify and obtains and records patient identification, medical history, or test results. Reviews and updates patient documentation in EMR/PACS. Venipuncture Performs venous punctures, utilizes universal precautions while administering radiopharmaceuticals. Safety Protocol Practices established safety guidelines and utilizes ALARA radiation reduction tools and techniques.
