Wayfair is one of the world’s largest online destinations for the home, and they are seeking a Data Scientist I for their Operations Analytics team. The role involves providing analytical support to optimize operations, including Fulfillment and Planning, and requires strong skills in data analysis and modeling. Responsibilities: • Work within a small but high impact team focused on providing analytical firepower to a number of groups under the operations umbrella, with a focus on Fulfillment, Planning, and Analytics. • Support decisions of if, when, and where to open new Fulfillment Centers and Home Delivery Operation nodes in our network in a way that maximizes value through optimizing inbound and outbound speed and cost across a multitude of FC functions. Use a 5+ year forward looking time horizon when conducting cost/benefit trade off analyses. • Advise on decisions to expand on our deluxe delivery operations (e.g., pre-building of furniture before delivery, inspections for damage, etc.), reviewing the near term cost/benefit tradeoffs and long term customer lifetime value impacts. • Support development of a strategic put away logic for a pilot of automated inbound sortation robots analytical needs. • Design and maintain models that drive strategic insight, packaging findings into concise and actionable recommendations, and selling the data story to our cross functional and senior stakeholders. • Utilize your experience in SQL, python, and spreadsheet modelling to build tailored and robust sensitivity analyses that identify and address business value opportunities. Develop tools and dashboards that provide critical insights, enabling data-driven decision-making. • Work in a fast paced, highly iterative environment that is responsive to the evolving needs of our operations functions and strategies. Qualifications: Required: • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Operations Research, or a related discipline with a strong academic record. • Experience in an analytics or data science role, performing quantitative analysis and delivering actionable recommendations from findings. • Advanced proficiency in SQL, including knowledge of aggregate functions, joins, etc. • Hands-on experience and comfortability with Python for data manipulation, analysis, and modeling. • Authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by Wayfair now or in the future. Preferred: • Ability to synthesize insights from undefined and open ended problem sets and articulate into clear, top down evidence backed narratives. • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience building comprehensive and compelling slide decks and white papers. • Solution-oriented & curious intellectual mindset and curiosity, with a passion for continuous learning and problem-solving. • Strategic thinker, able to provide direction and support to the team in setting clear project goals, managing the execution of projects that align with business objectives. • Experience with or knowledge of supply chain and logistics concepts is a strong plus.
