The Clinical Informatics Educator supports clinicians in effectively using clinical information systems to enhance patient care. This role delivers training, provides at-the-elbow support, assesses user needs, and acts as a liaison between clinical staff and IT. The educator identifies workflow improvement opportunities, assists with system optimization, and contributes to technology adoption across the healthcare organization.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical System Support & Training
Deliver hands-on, computer-based training for clinicians on electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical tools. Assess individual and group training needs for clinical system users. Provide real-time support at the point of care to address system usage issues and optimize workflows. Assist in the creation of training materials and documentation for Beacon Health System applications. Workflow Optimization & Liaison Role Serve as a key liaison between clinicians and IT/informatics teams. Identify system enhancement opportunities to improve clinician experience and patient outcomes. Collaborate with informatics analysts, clinical leadership, and IT to implement system upgrades or changes. Participate in testing of new functionality, upgrades, and software deployments. Process Improvement & Communication Utilize process improvement methods to enhance clinical workflows. Act as a resource for end users during system go-lives, updates, or optimization initiatives. Gather clinician feedback to inform training, usability, and system development decisions. Support development and delivery of "Train-the-Trainer" programs. Regulatory & Organizational Compliance Maintain documentation of training activities and workflows. Ensure training and systems align with regulatory requirements, including HIPAA compliance. Follow established change management and quality assurance procedures. Adhere to infection prevention and patient safety protocols. Qualifications Education & Experience Associate's degree required;
Bachelor's degree preferred . 2-3 years of experience in a clinical, training, or healthcare IT setting. Experience with clinical information systems (e.g., Cerner preferred). Exposure to multiple physician specialties and workflows a plus. Background in education, training, or informatics highly desirable. Certifications (Preferred) BCLS/CPR (as required by department). Certifications in Informatics, Cerner, or Adult Education are a plus. Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of clinical workflows, hospital operations, and EHR usage. Proficiency with Cerner and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Understanding of adult learning principles and training methodologies. Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments. Ability to adapt training approaches based on varying computer literacy levels. Familiarity with process improvement tools and project/change management best practices. Working Conditions Office and patient care environments may be exposed to biohazards. Requires extended computer use and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Variable schedule depending on training needs across facilities. Occasional travel to clinical locations as needed. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, walk, and lift/carry up to 30 lbs.
