Ormco Sr. Tool Room Supervisor

The Ormco Sr. Tool Room Supervisor will lead a team of tool makers in support of a high-precision medical device manufacturing operation. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of toolroom operations including mold fabrication, maintenance, repair, and cleaning. The supervisor ensures timely delivery of high-quality tooling solutions to support production and engineering needs, while fostering a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and technical excellence. This position will be on-site in Pomona, CA and will report directly to the Sr. Focus Factory Manager. Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of toolroom activities including mold builds, repairs, and preventive maintenance. Manage the full lifecycle of tooling projects, ensuring adherence to quality, cost, and delivery targets. Maintain accurate records of tool performance, service history, and maintenance schedules. Collaborate with engineering to support mold replacement strategies based on condition assessments and cost-benefit analysis. Supervise, coach, and develop a high-performing team of toolmakers. Set clear performance objectives and conduct regular reviews to ensure alignment with departmental goals. Promote a culture of accountability, craftsmanship, and continuous learning. Lead workforce planning efforts to ensure adequate staffing levels and skill coverage for all tool room operations. Identify training needs and coordinate skill development programs to enhance team capabilities and support career growth. Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and implement improvement plans to drive individual and team performance. Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement by setting clear expectations and recognizing high performance. Develop succession plans and mentor high-potential employees to build a strong internal talent pipeline. Monitor team performance and address issues proactively, including administering disciplinary actions when necessary, in accordance with company policies and procedures to maintain a productive and respectful work environment. Oversee employee timekeeping and attendance, ensuring accurate records are maintained, addressing discrepancies promptly, and enforcing attendance policies to support operational efficiency. Provide technical guidance on mold design, manufacturability, and process optimization. Collaborate with engineering and project teams to support new product introductions and tooling innovations. Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies. Contribute to capital planning and provide input on tooling investments and upgrades. Ensure all toolroom activities comply with company policies, quality standards, and EHS regulations. Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions to maintain a safe working environment. Support internal and external audits related to tooling and maintenance operations. Coordinate with external vendors for procurement, maintenance, and calibration of tools and equipment to ensure timely availability and compliance with quality standards. Evaluate vendor performance based on quality, delivery timelines, and cost-effectiveness; recommend improvements or alternative suppliers as needed. Maintain accurate vendor records, including contracts, service logs, and communication history, to support audits and continuous improvement initiatives. Communicate effectively across departments to anticipate tooling needs, resolve issues quickly, and support continuous workflow. Coordinate cross-functional planning meetings to align tool room operations with production goals and project timelines. Proactively identify and address potential disruptions in tooling supply or maintenance that could impact production, ensuring seamless business continuity. Drive continuous improvement by utilizing Envista Business Systems to enhance operational efficiencies, reduce costs, and improve product quality. Any duties or tasks that are assigned by Manager. Job Requirements: Associate's degree required; bachelor's degree preferred. 10+ years of hands-on experience in injection mold design, fabrication, and maintenance of class A molds (Tolerance of +/-0.001"). 5+ years of supervisory experience in a toolroom environment, preferably in medical or dental device manufacturing. Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and CNC programming. Fundamental understanding GD&T tolerances and dimensions for high precision medical devices. Preferred Qualifications: Extensive knowledge of tooling systems, machining processes, and tool maintenance best practices. Familiarity with CNC machines, grinders, lathes, and other precision equipment used in tool rooms. Strong mathematical and analytical skills to perform precise measurements, interpret technical data, calculate tolerances, and ensure accuracy in tooling specifications and machining processes. Strong leadership qualities by setting clear expectations, motivating team members, fostering accountability, and driving a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Strong analytical skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in real time and exercise judgment in high-paced, high-stakes environment. Customer focus mindset. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively work with many levels and types of people. Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical information, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and ensure alignment on tooling priorities and production goals. Strong computers skills demonstrating a firm knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Microsoft Project). Able to type 50 WPM.
