Job Description
The CST-FA is an allied health professional who works under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. The CST-FA works under the direction of supervision of the surgeon, provides assistance with preoperative skin preparation, positioning of the patient, draping, hemostasis, operative site exposure, tissue handling, use of instrumentation, suturing, cleansing of surgical area and application of dressings, and other duties, as requested by the surgeon. They possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, cardiac surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Education: Associates Science Preferred Experience: 4 years Healthcare/Medical
Surgical Services CST experience Certification / License: Certification as CST-FA required BLS Certification (Basic Life Support)
American Heart "Healthcare Provider (HCP)
AHA Approved Registered in state of VA as first assistant required Certified by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation. Qualifications: Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed in order to provide care for the age group of patients served. Demonstrates ability to provide exposure, hemostasis and other technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. Demonstrates ability to perform diversified roles, services, or functions. Competent to provide care using the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological stages of human growth and development. Must have reliable means of phone communication with hospital Required to work a minimum of 2080 hours annually at VH Works in partnership with the RN circulator, CST, and Surgeon in providing the most reliable care of our patients. Maintains a professional attitude at all times and looks for ways to improve departmental processes. Responsible for continuous education in their role and maintains certification as a CST-FA, CVOR.
