Supervisor, General Ultrasound Section

The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public. This full-time Supervisor role is based at the TMC location, overseeing the General Ultrasound Section. Responsibilities rotate between the outpatient and inpatient departments, requiring flexibility in hours and days to meet operational or staffing needs. The Supervisor must be on-site, with a minimum of 50% scanning time, and be prepared to step in and support the team across any location or shift as needed. The supervisors will alternate leading the ride-out team. Our team consists of 15 full-time technologists, 7 Per Diem Technologists, 1 Technologist assistant, and 2 supervisors, managing approximately 100 patients daily. Inpatient services operate 24/7, including holidays. Supervisors and full-time technologists share on-call duties for nights, weekends and holidays to ensure coverage. The patient population will include both inpatient and outpatient settings. Shift Hours: Saturday and Sunday: 8AM-4:30PM (inpatient) Wednesday to Friday: 8AM-4:30PM (rotate between inpatient and outpatient) Wednesday to Friday: 9:30AM-6PM (rotate between inpatient and outpatient) Job Specific Competencies Clinical Operations and Patient Care Resolves clinical operation and patient care issues. Ensures patient/family/staff and visitor safety at all times. Recognizes patient distress signs. Adheres to all infection control practices. Applies and monitors knowledge of Age Specific Criteria. Works with team and recognizes examination findings. Demonstrates ability to work effectively and collaboratively. Demonstrates flexibility to the demands of patient care. Travels to off-site regional patient care facilities. Maintains cleanliness/orderliness of all imaging rooms. Adheres to HIPAA requirements. Assures all necessary patient documentation is complete and accurate. Global Strategic Alignment, Personnel, and Financial Administration Maximizes productivity and operational effectiveness. Applies knowledge of area specific processes. Assists with development of new policy and procedure. During system failure, performs section down-time procedures. Demonstrates effective communication skills. Ensures team executes accurate, complete and timely transfer of images. Leads Huddles, Staff Meetings and Chairs events. Actively leads and/or participates in quality and performance improvement activities. Champions change and builds support for aligned programs. Fosters, assists, and encourages a receptive and nurturing environment. Suggests ways to improve efficiency in the workplace. Adheres to Joint Commission standards. Maintains and monitors position required licensure and certifications. Meets with staff to discuss section and clinic performance. Documents incidents, variances, unusual circumstances. Completes mandatory in-services and continuing education requirements. Aligns with American College of Radiology Accreditation standards. Technical Acumen Establishes competencies for team and demonstrates technical proficiency. Demonstrates knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy. Demonstrates understanding of principles and diagnostic imaging parameters. Maintains and audits productivity standards. Tracks error rates are minimized to benchmarked levels. Responsible for independent and proficient operation of all assigned imaging equipment. Supervises all equipment malfunctions. Performs any necessary procedures or provides technical coverage. Responsible for accurately entering data into all clinical computer systems. Monitors & assists with equipment maintenance logs. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Education Required: Graduate of a Radiology Technology, Ultrasound Technology, or Nuclear Medicine Technology program or an Associates of Applied Science degree. Certification Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through the American Heart Association. Must have one of the following: Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist (CMRT) through the Texas Department of State Health Services. Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) and Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist (CMRT) through the Texas Department of State Health Services. Registration by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Preferred Certification: Additional certifications in respective modality. Experience Required: Two years of experience as a Registered Technologist. One year of lead/supervisory experience. Preferred Experience: Four years of experience as a Registered Technologist with one year in a supervisory/leadership capacity. Onsite Presence: 100% onsite is required.
