Job Summary

Coordinates and provides a comprehensive health program which includes a broad range of medical, dental, mental health and nutrition services to preschool children, including children with disabilities. Assists children with their physical, emotional, cognitive and social development toward the overall goal of social competence; promotes preventative health services and early intervention; and provides the child's family with the necessary skills and insight that links the family to an ongoing health care system to ensure that the child continues to receive comprehensive health care even after he/she leaves the Head Start Program. Organizes the Inter-agency committee, with medical personnel and parents to plan the Health Services Program. Qualifications: Certificated as a LPN. First Aid Certification. Experience in organizing health services to children. Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Policy Council and Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable. Performance Responsibilities: Implements all Program Performance Standards regarding health, dental, nutrition and mental health components. Coordinates and participates on IEP or other committees in relation to the health and welfare of children. Documents past and current health history of each child and follow-up on needed services. Maintains and reviews accurate health records of services rendered to each child and compile all statistical data required. Prepares reports (immunization, Program Information Report, etc.) for agencies requesting information. Ensures all child health screenings occur. Provides information and support on these issues to children, families and staff. Analyzes data to assist in program planning and training. Assists in making and scheduling appointments, transport children, and assist with health examinations. Visits centers regularly to observe the general health of the children. Makes referrals to the Mental Health agency for children, parents, and staff. Coordinates support group meetings and counseling sessions for families and staff. Conducts and records medical screening for vision, height, and weight as required. Provides information for Program Information Report. Assists with the collection and coding of the Child Nutrition Program records. Assists other staff with projects as requested. Maintains a record keeping system. Maintains confidentiality at all times. Engages in personal/professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics. Performs other related duties that are required by director. Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Head Start policy on Evaluation of Head Start Personnel.
