Powertrain Electrical Test Engineer
The Electrical Test Engineer will be responsible for component testing and validation of cutting-edge electric vehicle drive units. This individual will focus on drive unit test execution for electric powertrains, with a strong focus on electric motors for next-generation electric vehicle developments. Responsible for creating, maintaining, and executing DVP/PVP test plans. Create and correlate test procedures and test result reports. Collaborate with a talented team of design, CAE, and system engineers to create a highly integrated drive unit assembly with electric traction motor, geartrain, cooling, and power electronics. The position oversees the testing of components and must have familiarity with current eDrive systems to maintain a level of competitiveness in target setting. Responsibilities (80s of the Position): Validate electric motor performance and efficiency through the use of dynamometers equipped with power analyzers Support motor analysis and inverter calibration by specifying and conducting motor tests Validate, execute, and verify test plans and test results Set up, calibrate, and troubleshoot test cell equipment and instrumentation Interact with test requestors, technicians, and schedule validation timelines according to development timelines Provide guidance to technicians and technical associates and verify all work and data output Build and expand internal testing and calibration capability Utilize and support external vendors and contractors as needed Support the definition of test conditions, pass/fail criteria for sub-systems, and completed system. Correlate life testing to life predictions, refining analysis/models, and collaborate with CAE engineers. Post-process test results, identify root-cause of potential issues, and make design recommendations to meet the highest level of durability, efficiency, and performance for Canoo vehicles. Required Experience: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. 7+ years of Automotive powertrain development and validation experience, including rotating electric machine, NVH, and power electronic disciplines. First-hand experience in the development and validation of electric drive unit components and assemblies from prototype into production scenarios. Experience with motor and vehicle test equipment such as dynamometers and data acquisition hardware and software Experience of Test-Simulation correlation in the component/sub-system/models. Prepared test articles, collaborating with testing resources to complete DVP&R activities. Strong communication skills and experience with presenting results and recommendations to multidisciplinary teams. Preferred Experience: Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering Experience in electric vehicle powertrains, including various traction motor and transmission architectures. Experience with Matlab/Simulink, Labview/Veristand, CAS, INCA, Canalyzer, Canape, dSPACE/Control Desk, power analysis equipment Team building and mentoring experience.
