Certified Oncology Abstractor

Position: Certified Oncology Abstractor Department: Oncology Information Center Shift: 8AM-5PM Status: Full-time/ 80 hours per pay period Facility: Atrium Medical Center/ Hybrid Identify, compile, and maintain complete and accurate data records of patients diagnosed and/or treated for malignancies or reportable tumors in any Premier Health System hospital, clinic, or office of an associated business-partner. Under limited supervision, the Certified Oncology Abstractor collects and maintains complete and accurate data which summarizes demographics, cancer site, histology, stage at diagnosis and treatment information for each reportable case in compliance with various registry standard-setters. Other responsibilities include quality control, assistance with data submissions, tasks for regulatory surveys. Support for cancer conferences may also be necessary. Education

Minimum Level of Education Required: High School completion / GED Successful completion of any Associate's degree or the equivalent (60 college-level credit hours) is necessary to be eligible for CTR certification. The coursework must include two semesters (six total credit hours) in Human Anatomy and Human Physiology (Grade of C or better is required). Certification as a Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) from the National Cancer Registrars Association. Experience

Minimum Level of Experience Required: No prior job-related work experience Preferred experience: Cancer Registry Knowledge/Skills

Time management skills and self-direction with the ability to work independently. Strong problem-solving, appropriate judgment and decision-making skills. Coding principles preferred. Ability to verify data input and correct errors. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Medical terminology, anatomy and physiology terminology experience preferred. Effective written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills. Internet skills, strong computer skills and word processing data entry skills. Effective interpersonal and communication skills for interactions with physicians, ancillary staff and volunteers. Strong organization skills
