Core Responsibilities: Supervise, coach and lead Business Banking employees, driving engagement, performance, and long-term success. Act as the Bank's principal portfolio manager, responsible for credit oversight and risk management. Cross-functional collaboration between teams to ensure alignment and support. A Look into Your Day As a Business Banking Manager, you will play a critical role in leading the Business Banking function as we work to expand our service model to our branch/retail teams. While supervising our business banking staff, you'll provide the coaching and leadership needed to drive long-term success. Your expertise will help maintain and promote the Bank's credit culture while engraining the business banking credit model across our branch network. Your experience essentially makes you the Bank's largest portfolio manager, ensuring that risk is effectively managed. You will be responsible for making up to $250k loan decisions and ensuring loan/credit worthiness is maintained at all levels. Your focus on relationship building and communication will bridge the gap between underwriting, processing, and lending teams, while you relentlessly seek to improve service and functionality of the Business Banking model throughout the organization. You will enhance loan workflow processes to ensure exceptional experiences for clients, lenders, and team members alike. You'll develop targeted training initiatives and task your Business Banking Portfolio Manager(s) to deliver on and support business banking functions throughout the Bank. What We're Looking For To thrive as the Business Banking Manager at Mercantile Bank, candidates must possess a robust commercial credit background, complemented by formal credit training and at least 5+ years of hands-on banking experience focused on a combination of branch management, loan processing, documentation, and sales. A bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field is essential, alongside a strong understanding of business loan documentation. Familiarity with banking systems is crucial, particularly with transitioning to the recently implemented Abrigo software; while experience with Abrigo is not mandatory, having similar Loan Origination System (LOS) experience is beneficial for continuous system enhancements. Candidates should exhibit exceptional organizational and collaboration skills to liaise effectively with branch managers who support business customers daily. Additionally, the ability to make confident credit decisions of up to $250k on small business loans is a must, ensuring oversight and sound judgment within the business banking portfolio. Requirements: Commercial credit background required (formal credit training) 5+ years of prior experience in banking - combination of branch management, loan processing, documentation, sales and/or banking systems Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or another related field Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 10% as needed (day travel primarily) Ability to communicate effectively in person and digitally, with strong relationship building skills Strong technology focus and understanding of banking systems Previous supervisory experience strongly preferred
