Gas Free Mechanic Specialist - Norfolk, VA
Colonna's Shipyard is seeking a Gas Free Mechanic Specialist for our Shipyard in Norfolk, VA. Job Description: Properly dissemble, inspect, clean and reassemble tank apparatuses that include but not limited to vents, valves, clean-out caps, clamps loading/ unloading lines, hoses, gaskets, and other equipment that are to be cleaned as per normal tank cleaning procedure. Ensure that the right equipment is on site for the task that needs to be accomplished. Remove all foreign materials from tanks in a safe and efficient manner. Scrape and scrub bilge's tanks: remove gas, water, and oil from vessels. Assess and execute hose runs from pier to the designated pumping area onboard the vessel as well as augmenting and identifying issues presented after hose run has been established to be cognizant of other work in his/ her area. Maintain good housekeeping practices; turning off machines when not in use, disposing of waste properly, sweeping the area/ remove debris. May be responsible for testing the space upon completion of cleaning. Open or help with opening of deep well inspections covers in a safe manner. Notify the department manager and relevant Superintendent of any unsatisfactory condition(s) identified during the tank cleaning/ maintenance operation. Knowledge and ability to follow the CHT process control procedures and NAVSEA item 009-09/88. Analyze job from start to finish ensuring proper and safe methods used. Read and interpret work specification, blueprint, technical manuals, and schematics. Plug, blanks and locate leaks or other problems. Locate and flushes pipeline to meet Gas Free conditions. Perform repairs on pumps and related equipment. Trouble shoot systems and correct problems. Fuel and defuel ships. Mark or tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required. Adherence to industry codes, regulations, and specifications Read and understand the Chemist and Competent Persons report and determine if job sites, particularly those involving combustible material, are safe for personnel and hot work. Finish, cleans, and closes out tanks and spaces perform QA Inspections for cleanliness prior to final tank close. Help Foreman provide training to new employees and lowerclassmen. Assist Foreman with manpower scheduling and maintenance, material maintenance, enforcement safety compliance, and tracking project progress. Will be required to wear personal protective equipment-hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots, shoes and when necessary, respirator. Other duties may be assigned as workload requirements dictate.
