General Summary
The position is responsible for hand-polishing and shaping stone countertops. Learn, understand, and master the variables (pressure, speed, water quality/volume, pad sequence) of the tooling in order to consistently provide the best quality results
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Unload material from tables using cranes, vacuum lifts, clamps and hoists. Monitor quality of product output and report equipment failures to shop manager Maintain daily maintenance to tooling (grinders) schedules Learn pad sequences based on material (species, colors, thickness, edge profile) Lubricate and grease necessary parts, log, and maintain daily Troubleshoot rudimentary issues Provide feedback to management on pad/tool life, quality, speed, pressure, water volume Understand how variables affect final product Communicate inventory levels to management (pad quantities, etc.) Keep to production schedule and maintain shop flow Maintain safe working environment in accordance with OSHA guidelines Limit remakes/reworks to 1% of total sqft or linear feet processed Works with all surfaces (natural stone, quartz, solid surface, porcelain) Cut undermount or drop-in sinks by hand and polish Use of core bits, contour blades, regular blades, stones, etc. Custom edge profile (Bevel, Demi, Full Bullnose, Ogee, etc.) Laminate and miter when necessary, especially waterfall panels Texturing and surface polish all stones especially quartz and black granite Custom work as required (radius, drop downs, drink rails, roding, etc.) Knowledge of chemicals and epoxies and how to use them when enhancing stone Identifying when the polisher does not "sound right", "perform right", etc. you should be in-sync with the tools performance Know daily volume capabilities and capacities Reliable, responsible, and dependable in relation to attendance, machinery, and communication Teach others how to hand fab edges, cut sinks, repair tops, etc. to its maximum potential Communicate with tooling suppliers on quality and life Can identify when falling behind schedule and what can be done to stay on track See and identify issues "before" they arise and troubleshoot Consistently learning and pushing performance Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Prior solid surface fabrication experience of 1 year required. Other Requirements
This role would require the ability to lift, push, and/or pull loads in excess of 50 lb. This role requires use of hands and arms in handling, positioning, and moving materials. This position requires frequent twisting and bending. Time spent standing in position is continual or almost continual. PPE is to be used. Travel required: negligible.
