Research Assistants - Media & Health Study (Short-Term)

As a Research Assistant on this short-term study, you will work as part of a small student team under faculty supervision to support a pseudo-experimental survey-based project focused on health communication and media influence. Your responsibilities may include: Assisting in updating a curated list of popular medical dramas, ensuring relevance for the study. Developing and executing a distribution strategy for an already created online survey targeting a diverse adult population across the U.S., with a focus on Georgia and rural areas. Creating engaging digital flyers and clear, concise messaging for recruitment emails, social media posts, and event handouts. Collaborating with other student assistants to track outreach progress and coordinate tasks efficiently. Participating in occasional travel to rural outreach events (e.g., health fairs hosted by GRHIC) to encourage community survey participation. Exploring creative methods for reaching individuals with limited or no computer access (e.g., tablet-based onsite survey options). Maintaining accurate records of recruitment efforts and contacts. Preferred Qualifications: Interest in health communication, public health, rural health, or media studies. Familiarity with popular medical TV dramas. Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Spark, etc.) and writing for public audiences. Strong organizational and follow-through skills. Comfort working independently and in a small collaborative team. Willingness to travel locally (travel approved and reimbursed as needed). Timeline: Start date: As soon as selected. End date: June 30, 2025 Must be a current Mercer University student in good standing. Compensation: A stipend of $250 will be offered to each student worker. Travel expenses to events may be reimbursed with prior approval. If the stipend is accepted, students will be required to submit tax documentation to the MUSM financial office. Students may also choose to volunteer without receiving compensation. Scheduled Hours: 5 Start Date: 04/30/2025 End Date: 06/30/2025
