The MCS (Mechanical Circulator Support) Program Coordinator will work in collaboration with the physicians to coordinate inpatient and outpatient care for patients with mechanical circulatory support. This includes but is not limited to patient education, staff education, community education, surgical coordination, clinic visits, and administrative responsibilities. The MCS Coordinator will also assure care meets all regulatory requirements and assist with program certification. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Coordination of Care: Interviews and treats inpatient and outpatient visits within the scope of practice. Coordinates pre-op testing and transportation, as necessary. Coordinates insurance appeals. Assists with the collection and submission of information to insurance companies to obtain approval of Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) devices. Coordinates for readmissions, as necessary. Acts as the first point of contact with patients for questions or concerns. Assists with dressing changes. Education: Coordinates opportunities for staff training on MCS operations, management, and troubleshooting. Provides patient and family education. Develops and revises patient educational materials. Education documents are provided and communicated with nursing staff regarding additional teaching requirements. Provides post-op education and prepares the patient for discharge. Provides and supports community health care members that will have contact with the patient, including but not limited Program Development: Promotes AU Health MCS Program to increase patient referrals. Participates in outreach meetings and community events. Develops and maintains a strong professional relationship with community physicians and nurses. Assists abstractors with the INTERMACS database. Participates in quarterly reviews and continuous quality improvement projects. Writes, updates, and maintains program policies and procedures, guidelines, and research projects. Regulatory: Ensure all program and regulatory requirements are met for the emergent and preplanned VAD insertions. Ensures program is prepared for site visits and program adheres to Joint Commission standards. Coordinates and manages committee meetings. Coordinates with teams to assure ELSO guidelines are followed. Reports out opportunities and successes. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education
Associates Nursing or Bachelors Nursing or Masters Nursing Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated. ACLS-P - ACLS - Provisional within 180 Days or ACLS -I - ACLS - Instructor or ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor or BLS - Basic Life Support RN-COMPACT - RN - Multi-state Compact or RN - Reg Nurse (Single State) Additional License(s) and Certification(s)
Required Minimum Experience
Minimum 2 years experience in acute care nursing, preferably critical care or cardiology/heart failure. Required and Minimum 1 year experience in Mechanical Circulatory Support/VAD. Preferred Required Minimum Skills
