Job Summary The Infection Preventionist for Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Boston is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the Infection Prevention functions of Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Boston IC, one of the site teams of MGB Infection Control. The Infection Preventionist, reporting to the Director of Infection Control at MGB, must have knowledge and experience in infection prevention and control principles and practice, the ability to make evidence-based decisions, excellent problem-solving skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills. MGB is in an active change management environment and the Infection Preventionist will need to demonstrate flexibility and open mindedness as the contours of this position will actively evolve over time. Principle Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision and in collaboration with the MGB Director of Infection Control, the Infection Preventionist: Implements at the site-level, system infection prevention and control goals, plans, policies, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, regulatory/legal requirements and objectives of the organization. Implements site NHSN and non-NHSN surveillance, remediation, and reporting of infections, including outbreak detection and response. Conducts regular Environment of Care rounds and reports findings to appropriate local and system leadership. Supports continuous improvement of infection prevention and control practices. Functions as a site liaison to regulatory agencies and public health authorities. Evaluates the site-specific infection control program by identifying strategies that address the risk of infection transmission. Oversees and conducts site-specific educational efforts related to infection prevention and control. Implements, in collaboration with MGB Occupational Health Services, policies and procedures to assess, mitigate, and respond to occupational infection risk. Collaborates with other site-specific stakeholders (e.g., Environmental Health and Safety, Compliance, Facilities, Real Estate, etc.) as appropriate. Acts as NHSN site administrator when assigned by MGB Director of Infection Control. Participates in IPCC Working Groups and other activities as assigned. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in Infection Control, Public Health, Epidemiology, or Statistics preferred; Masters in Healthcare Management or another relevant field is acceptable. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred upon hire; if not CIC at hire, must be prepared to sit for CIC within 2 years of hire. Current Massachusetts licensure as a registered nurse preferred but not required. Minimum three years of related work experience required. Knowledge and experience in regulatory and other requirements related to Infection Prevention and Control. Implementation of CDC National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) surveillance and other surveillance for healthcare associated infections. Application of commonly used performance metrics including Vizient, Leapfrog, CMS, others. Special Requirements Must be available to work in the case of a facility-declared emergency. Must be available to assist during regulatory agency reviews. Must be available to work on-site.
