The general purpose of this position involves applying prescribed methods and standard practices in performing all phases of projects. This includes developing engineering studies, plans, specifications, and detailed scopes of work. It also requires developing protection system settings, engineering calculations, and design documents associated with the construction, operation, and maintenance of the company's transmission and distribution facilities/systems. Additionally, the role involves providing guidance, supervision, and engineering peer reviews for other engineers in the department. The position also supports the construction and commissioning of protection systems deployed on company transmission and distribution facilities. Responsibilities include developing protection system schematic designs, conducting short circuit and symmetrical component analysis, performing protection system coordination studies localized and wide area, developing relay settings and protection system automation logic, conducting arc flash analysis, managing integration with SCADA systems, developing complex electrical engineering studies, plans, detailed scopes of work, and protection system criteria, providing peer review as part of the defined QA/QC process for internal and external engineering design, settings, and studies, guiding and directing level I and II engineers, technicians, and drafters, delivering on commitments to accomplish assigned work, complying with NERC, FERC, and WECC regulations, occasional travel for project work and training, and analyzing and designing engineering methods. The requirements include a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology from an ABET-accredited university, a minimum of five years directly applicable engineering experience, demonstrated knowledge and application of principles in the area of engineering specialty, project management and leadership skills including the ability to work as a team member, to maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments, understanding of the companys business, and relevant policies, procedures, and practices, knowledge and application of engineering principles in the area of substations design, power system protection, and/or power system analysis, ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations, demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations, and proficiency with the use of personal computers including automated tools. For Senior Engineer II, the requirements include a minimum of six or more years' experience in industrial power systems or electric utility power systems, an advanced technical degree or professional engineer (PE) license required or 8 years of directly applicable engineering experience required, expert knowledge in the area of engineering specialty, and the ability to mentor others, including senior engineers, in the area of engineering specialty. Preferences include a professional engineering license (PE), power systems focused Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) or Masters of Engineering in Electrical Engineering (MEngEE), proficiency in substation design, and proficiency in power system protection.
