Laboratory Animal Technologist

In support of The Ohio State University's Research and Innovation activities, the selected candidate will work within Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge (ERIK) supporting the University Laboratory Animal Resources (ULAR) mission of providing humane animal care and facilitating biomedical research discoveries. In coordination with an area Team Leader; the Laboratory Animal Technologist works as a high level team member to complete humane animal care and facility needs in one or various facilities. The individual in this role maintains record systems and census of animals in eprotocol and RFID systems, including transfers and animal order needs as assigned by the Team Leader; helps team members feed and water animals as required by standard operating procedures for a variety of species; observes and reports abnormal animal health conditions; maintains sanitation of animal housing and research areas including cage wash; performs sterilization, disinfection, pest control; generates and/or maintains record keeping systems for animal care; acts as a point of contact for research lab animal supply requests; alerts appropriate Team Leader(s) of required area supply needs and other issues; acts as a point of contact for research staff concerns, relays information to Team Leader as appropriate; and serves as a point of contact for LAT1/LAT2 for questions directly related to animal care, relays information to Team Leader as appropriate. This is a higher-level lab animal care position and will require an individual to possess knowledge of various species and multiple and/or specific facility needs; position must be highly adaptable to varied operational conditions; may be required to work weekend hours; position requires successful completion of a background check and employee health physical. Required Qualifications: Associate's Degree in Animal Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Two (2) years work experience providing direct care for animals in a program setting or facility. Desired Qualifications: Current AALAS registration or certification; One (1) year of experience providing supervision of people or processes. This job opportunity is a technical-level position. The minimum starting rate is $22.00 and will depend on the candidate's qualifications.
