Unit Service Technician

The Unit Service Technician provides a broad range of care and services to patients in various departments including but not limited to EKG, phlebotomy, equipment cleaning, and stocking of rooms under the supervision of a licensed nurse. They perform a wide range of secretarial duties, including but not limited to organizing paperwork, answering the phone, paging, and receiving of Emergency Department patients into the medi-tech computer system. They will provide safe accurate transportation of patients throughout the hospital. They will perform 1:1 sitting when necessary. The Unit Service Technician assures the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model in an environment that exemplifies best practice. Essential Functions

The Unit Service Technician performs various duties across different departments including: ED:

Provision of safe environment, performs assigned patient transportation, performs technical duties including EKG, phlebotomy under the supervision of a licensed nurse. ICU:

Provision of a safe environment, management of resources, management of information, collaborative interdisciplinary care, patient/family education. OPIC:

Provision of a safe environment, organizational ethics, management of resources, management of information, collaborative interdisciplinary care, patient/family education. Perioperative:

Provision of a safe environment, organizational ethics, management of resources, management of information, collaborative interdisciplinary care, patient/family education. IV Therapy:

Provision of a safe environment, organizational ethics, management of resources, management of information, collaborative interdisciplinary care, patient/family education. Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities

No supervisory or managerial responsibilities. Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent. Licenses and Credentials: Basic Life Support [BLS] - Generic - HR Only required and Certified Nurse Aide [CNA] - State Specific Certification Board required or Emergency Medical Technician [EMT License] - Generic - HR Only required. Experience: Experience as a medical technician or patient care assistant in an Emergency setting preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Staff adheres to all C.A.R.E. Standards. Must be able to work in a fast paced, often stressful environment. Must have good communication skills. Must have the ability to set and reset priorities. Must have excellent customer service skills. Ability to work in a fast passed critical care environment. Ability to effectively speak, read and write using the English language. Ability to pass clinical competency, basic math and reading testing. Physical ability to push, transfer, and pull heavy loads throughout assigned shift. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with nursing staff, patients, families/visitors, physicians, and other hospital staff.
