Status: Full Time, 8 hour shift Location: Main hospital, IV Room General Purpose of Job: The Clinical Pharmacist oversees the daily activities of the medication use process. Additionally, they perform the duties of a registered pharmacist as defined by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy and Driscoll Children's Hospital. Responsibilities: Provide direct patient care by overseeing and verifying all IV doses prepared during the shift to ensure safety, accuracy, and compliance with standards. Collaborate with pharmacy staff to ensure the safe, effective, and timely delivery of medications. Monitor patients for optimal therapeutic outcomes; identify and intervene on allergies, drug interactions, duplications, or adverse drug reactions. Verify appropriateness of medication orders based on diagnosis, age, weight, allergies, and drug interactions. Recommend cost-effective, clinically appropriate alternative therapies and evaluate non-formulary medication requests. Accurately process, verify, and enter medication orders; ensure timely filling, dispensing, and delivery of medications. Supervise pharmacy technicians and support staff to promote efficient daily workflow. Serve as a liaison to medical and nursing staff regarding pharmacy services and medication-related concerns. Provide counseling to patients and families on medication use, including outpatient prescriptions. Maintain accurate records for controlled substances, investigational drugs, and required documentation. Participate in staff training, student/preceptor activities, quality improvement initiatives, and ongoing professional education. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and corporate integrity guidelines. Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy with a B.S. or PharmD degree. Experience: One to three years of hospital pharmacy experience is preferred. Current licensure either by reciprocity or examination by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
