Ceramic Process Development Engineer
As a Ceramic Process Development Engineer, you will lead the innovation and development of cutting-edge Boron Nitride and non-oxide ceramic materials, driving new product introductions from concept through commercialization. Leveraging your deep expertise in materials science, chemical engineering, and high-temperature ceramics, you will pioneer advanced processing technologies and translate them into scalable manufacturing solutions. You'll collaborate across multifunctional teams to optimize quality, reduce defects, and enhance production efficiency, while ensuring compliance with EHS standards. This role offers the opportunity to generate impactful intellectual property and shape the future of ceramic materials in high-performance applications. Responsibilities Develop new Boron Nitride and other non-oxide powders, coatings & solids products and processes based on technology roadmap utilizing technical expertise in chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science to meet new market/application demands. Lead Ceramic Powders and Shapes/Solids new product development projects with support from cross-functional teams, external collaborators, and validation partners. Explore, adopt, and develop new processing technologies for ceramics processing utilizing technical expertise in process technologies and engineering, chemical engineering and materials science. Identify Critical to Quality (CTQ) for processes, develop and implement robust new approaches and procedures for new products and transfer the processes to manufacturing to meet current and new market and application demands. Identify, optimize, and implement process improvements to improve quality, cost, throughputs, and reduce defects in processing and products. Apply project management skills in planning, budgeting, time management, resource allocation, and risk management. Generate intellectual properties such as technical reports, operation procedures, patents, and publications. Apply Six Sigma methodology, statistical and characterization tools to analyze process and product quality. Facilitate problem solving (root cause analysis) with corrective actions through collaboration with Operations, Maintenance, and other support organizations. Provide leadership, engineering expertise, and excellence to operations team in support of Safety, Quality, Productivity, and Delivery. Assist in the sustainability of stable operations and a Continuous Improvement culture. Ensure EHS compliance for process and equipment and identify improvement opportunities, and Lead identification, mitigation, and elimination of safety exposures. Basic Qualifications Master's degree or higher education in Chemical Engineering or Material Science 5+ years related industrial experience Hands on expertise in ceramics, ceramics processing, powder processing, chemistry, and high temperatures processes. Expertise in material characterization techniques including SEM, EDS, and XRD, Proficient in statistical design and analysis of experimental data including design of experiment, hypothesis testing and Gage R&R Project management experience - effective planning and prioritization of projects to ensure on time delivery of new product/process technologies. Proven interaction skills in a multi-functional team environment; ability to own key aspects of projects Ability to work in an industrial environment with necessary PPE and interact and influence in a matrixed environment A strong sense of accountability, urgency, and self-direction Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated mechanical engineering aptitude and troubleshooting. Six Sigma training and/or certifications Familiar with new product development using Stage-Gate process Energetic self-starter with strong leadership skills Experience working with statistical software such as Minitab or Origin. Mechanical design using SolidWorks Key Relationships Plant Leadership Team and Shop Floor Employees Manufacturing Process Engineers Maintenance team Planners and Schedulers Continuous Improvement Team Site EH&S Team Functional Leaders including Commercial Organization Our Ceramic Process Development Engineer will earn variable compensation including a base salary and bonus.
