The Director of Experiential Learning and Career Outcomes plays a pivotal role in creating early-stage professional experiences of undergraduate students pursuing computing majors and minors at UIC by providing opportunities for hands-on learning and career preparation. This position builds off the initial success of Break Through Tech Chicago to improve gender diversity in computing disciplines and technology professions. This position combines the oversight of experiential learning programsexisting ones implemented by Break Through Tech Chicago and future innovationswith the design and delivery of professional development services aimed at building students' career readiness. This is a full-time position based in Chicago with in-office requirements. The position requires industry work experience and interest in developing early career talent. Must have a dedication to promoting diversity, gender equity, multiculturalism, and inclusion. Duties & Responsibilities:
Work closely with employers, alumni, computer science and college of engineering staff and faculty and other campus resources to help students gain the skills, knowledge, and experiences that will prepare them for success in their careers and post-graduate endeavors. Manage and grow existing range of experiential learning opportunities, including (micro)internships and practicums, that align with students' skills and career goals in technology or data professions. Establish and nurture partnerships with employers, community organizations, government agencies, and alumni networks to create diverse, high-quality experiential learning placements for students. Represent the gender-equity in tech mission and value proposition. Coordinate logistics for experiential learning programs, including student placement, site visits, orientation, and compliance with protocols and university policies. Design and implement a comprehensive professional and skill development curriculum that integrates career readiness into the students' academic trajectory. Provide individual and group career coaching and advising to undergraduate students, helping them develop career plans, set professional goals, and navigate internship and job searches. Work with employers, industry professionals, and alumni to facilitate career exploration and networking events to connect students with employers and enhance career opportunities. Conduct career readiness assessments to help students identify strengths, skills gaps, and career interests, and assist them in mapping out personalized professional development plans. Track student progress throughout their experiential learning experiences, offering support to ensure they meet academic and professional development objectives. Provide report and trend updates to the department leadership team. Regularly assess the effectiveness of experiential learning and professional development programs, using student feedback, employer evaluations, and post-graduation outcomes. Analyze data to evaluate the success of programs in terms of student engagement, satisfaction, and career outcomes, and provide recommendations for program enhancements. Develop strategies for improving student participation and outcomes in experiential learning and career development initiatives, including outreach to underrepresented groups. Build new and leverage existing relationships with employers, alumni, and community and university partners to create a pipeline of opportunities for students and to keep programs aligned with industry trends and employer needs. Promote experiential learning and professional development programs through targeted outreach efforts, marketing communication, and collaboration with CS faculty, student affairs, academic advisors and student organizations. Manage the budget and resources for experiential learning and professional development programs, ensuring the efficient use of funding and other resources. Maintain accurate records of student participation, program outcomes, and employer feedback in order to assess impact and meet reporting requirements. Provide updates to senior leadership and stakeholders on program effectiveness, student engagement, and career outcomes. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree. 7+ years minimum experience in business, technology, data / analytics, professional services / consulting or related fields, and some managerial oversight responsibilities. Experience leading programs in an academic and/or corporate environment. Experience cultivating relationships and working with multiple stakeholders to build successful business development partnerships is strongly preferred. Proficient at using tools to develop communication aids and to perform data analysis (e.g., Excel, Tableau). Strong analytical skills with performance and results-orientation. Outstanding verbal and written communications skills, including being a public spokesperson for the program. Ability to lead independently and evaluate program success critically. Demonstrated effective planning and fiscal management skills.
