Carrier Procurement Manager
We're seeking a Carrier Procurement Manager to lead and grow our carrier procurement function by developing high-performing teams and strategic carrier relationships. In this role, you will drive carrier engagement, optimize pricing strategies, and ensure best-in-class service across all transportation modes. Your leadership will be essential in delivering results, building capacity, and supporting scalable operations for our rapidly growing customer base. Responsibilities
Carrier Development
Establish and maintain long-term partnerships with high-quality carriers across all relevant modesLTL, Truckload, Flatbed, Specialty, and Intermodal. Capacity Sourcing
Strategically source and secure capacity to meet customer needs in both real-time and long-term environments, balancing speed, cost, and reliability. Rate Negotiation
Lead pricing and margin strategies by negotiating competitive rates with carriers while ensuring high service standards. Market Intelligence
Analyze transportation trends, capacity dynamics, and rate movements to proactively position PLS for optimal performance and profitability. Carrier Performance Management
Monitor and evaluate carrier KPIs including on-time performance, service failures, and tracking compliance. Take proactive steps to elevate carrier quality. Relationship Management
Drive loyalty and trust through consistent communication, performance feedback, and timely issue resolution. Technology Utilization
Utilize internal TMS platforms and tools to manage the carrier network, track freight, and improve overall visibility and communication. Problem Solving
Act decisively in resolving service disruptions or escalated carrier issues, maintaining high standards of customer satisfaction. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Sales, Operations, and Account Management teams to ensure carrier strategies align with broader organizational goals and customer demands. Qualifications
35 years of experience in carrier procurement, sales, transportation, or logistics Previous experience in a leadership or management role preferred Strong knowledge of domestic freight markets across multiple modes Proven ability to build and manage carrier relationships Strategic thinker with strong negotiation and analytical skills Effective communicator and coach with the ability to motivate and lead teams Comfortable with data, KPIs, and TMS or other logistics technologies Why Join PLS?
