The RN Coding Liaison reports to the HIM Coding Director to assist in maintaining the consistency of multifunctional day-to-day Coding and CDI processes within coding guidelines. The purpose of this position is to ensure the integrity and quality of the data reported is supported by provider clinical documentation to accurately reflect reimbursement and quality reporting. Maintains knowledge of and keeps up with regulatory and healthcare changes pertaining to Medicare/Medicaid, payer guidelines, ICD-10, CPT coding, and documentation guidelines. Works closely with CDI specialists and Coding, providing coding conventions and guidelines when clinical and coding determinations are in conflict. Works directly with the physician advisor to discuss cases that require additional evaluation and finalization. The value youll bring to the team: Participates in both formal and informal education sessions with Coding, CDI, and other clinical staff as needed. Educates on the importance of documentation and necessary verbiage, providing a better understanding of coding to ensure optimal reimbursement, adherence to coding guidelines, and complete documentation. Serves as training liaison and educational resource for Coding and CDI. Assists in interviews and recommends new hires, trains new and established Coding and CDI team members as necessary and evaluates performance to identify potential coaching and learning opportunities. Concurrent and retrospective evaluation of Coding/CDI discrepancies, collaborating with Coding and CDI staff to resolve issues and ensure compliant, accurate, and optimal reimbursement. Assists in identifying performance indicators and developing monitoring strategies, data collection methods, and reporting methodologies. Utilizes process improvement skills. Consults with Coding and CDI Directors and department quality staff as needed to optimize the processes as a continuous improvement cycle. Follows industry coding and documentation guidelines to maintain system-wide coding consistency and ensure compliance with all relevant government and regulatory agencies.
