Education in the Microbiology Laboratory, where your technical expertise will drive clinical excellence and inspire the next generation of laboratory professionals. In this advanced role, you'll serve as both a technical expert in microbiological testing and the lead educator for new staff, rotating students, and current team members. You'll work closely with Technical Directors, Clinical Supervisors, and Compliance Officers to ensure high-quality training, seamless onboarding, and regulatory readinesswhile remaining hands-on in the lab. Key Responsibilities
Microbiology Testing & Quality Perform waived and non-waived microbiological testing per CLIA regulations Process clinical specimens and interpret culture results with accuracy and timeliness Maintain detailed documentation, including quality control, calibrations, and proficiency testing Identify and troubleshoot issues affecting test performance and implement corrective actions Ensure strict adherence to microbiology protocols, safety procedures, and accreditation standards Education & Training Leadership Design and deliver onboarding, training, and competency assessments for new and current staff Oversee training programs for students and staff rotating through Microbiology, including MLS trainees Develop and maintain up-to-date training documentation and SOPs within the MediaLab Compass system Evaluate existing training workflows and recommend updates to match current microbiology practices Coordinate with lab leadership to ensure training supports compliance, performance, and development goals What You Bring
Advanced knowledge of clinical microbiology, including bacteriology, mycology, and parasitology Proven ability to work independently and troubleshoot complex testing issues Strong organizational and documentation skills Passion for teaching, mentoring, and continuous learning Experience with laboratory regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA, CAP) Qualifications
Education Bachelor's Degree Medical Technology required or bachelor's degree Laboratory Sciences required and Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Medical Technologist (ASCP) - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) preferred Experience Experience in Microbiology Clinical Laboratory 2-5 years required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The knowledge, both practical and theoretical, of tests and procedures necessary to review findings and advise and direct subordinates in action. Demonstrates advanced level of analytical skills and judgement. Must have understanding of computer technology and its application to analytical procedures and quality control. Must have a comprehensive understanding of laboratory equipment and its operation, maintenance and repair and analytic techniques. Must have the ability to work independently, evaluate situations and act appropriately. Detailed knowledge of applicable federal, state and accreditation requirements. Ability to multitask and manage validations and projects in a fast-paced environment. Advanced computer skills. Comprehensive understanding of test principles, equipment operation and computer system operations. Make appropriate decisions, develop and complete follow-up actions in conjunction with lab leadership. Must be able to perform as a senior team member, providing direction and guidance to less experienced technologists. Must have the ability to pay careful attention to detail and to adhere to written protocols, including communication to supervisors when issues are identified. Must be able to perform as a team member. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to interact professionally and effectively with numerous staff including physicians, hospital personnel, employees, and patients. Physical Requirements
