Advanced Battery Systems Technical Fellow
In this role you will be part of Canoo's Battery Pack Team within the Propulsion group and will be the leader of current and forward-looking Battery and Energy Storage solutions including Battery Pack Design and Test. As a Technical Leader you will be expected to communicate cross-functionally across all engineering disciplines to engineer and deliver high quality Battery Pack and Energy Storage Solutions(s) for vehicle production. Responsibilities (80s of the Position): Drive Battery Cell, Module and Battery Pack Technology Development Canoo Expert on Battery Cell, Module and Battery Pack Technologies and Chemistries Identify new technologies and suppliers for Energy Storage Development Support Perform design activities such as concept module development from cells to modules and battery packs. This includes mechanical, electrical and thermal. Architect Battery Pack and Energy Storage Solutions Identify regulatory requirements to be met Support testing to regulatory requirements Responsible for Functional Safety Requirements for Battery Pack and Energy Storage Solutions Interface with Vehicle Platform team for implementation and areas of improvement Develop battery models as needed to support the Vehicle Systems Team for model and range estimates Familiar with testing and safety protocols for Battery Development and testing Required Experience: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field Minimum 10 years of engineering experience Strong communication, presentation, and teamwork skills Ability to solve complex problems Proficient in MS Office applications Self-starter / ability to work independently Multi-tasker, cover multiple projects at once Preferred Experience: Master's or Ph.D. degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field Significant Experience with Battery Pack and Energy Storage Systems Mechanical Design (Or similar electronics components) Knowledgeable of various Cell Technologies and Chemistries Experience supporting manufacturing activities Knowledge in vehicle communication protocols such as CAN, LIN and isoSPI Experience with CAN Communication tools (i.e. CANAlyzer, CANoe, CANape) Hand-on experience operating HV Power Supplies, thermal chambers, and measurements tools (sensors, oscilloscope, data acquisition systems) Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Good written and verbal communication with ability to create effective, data-driven reports. Good problem-solving, trouble-shooting skills Strong drive to learn, willingness to ask questions & take initiative Knowledgeable with ISO26262, functional safety Knowledgeable of automotive (Or Aerospace) standards Experience in component design for various manufacturing processes such as casting, injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, printed circuit board and fabrication and assembly, wire harness assembly, and electronic assemblies. Travel Requirements: Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% depending on program phase.
