Chief Water Treatment Plant Operator (SCA)
Responsible for all activities involving the operations and maintenance of the wastewater treatment system and sewer collection system. Limited supervisory responsibilities for wastewater plant operators, technicians, and laborers, and works under the general direction of the Operations Supervisor. Key Accountabilities include: Preparing, reviewing, evaluating, revising, establishing, and implementing policies and procedures used in the collection and treatment of wastewaters that result in safe, compliant, reliable, and profitable operations. Directing day-to-day activities and schedules of assigned staff and participating in review and evaluation of staff performance related to wastewater systems and treatment. Following company discipline policy when needed. Following and implementing Companys Environmental, Health, and Safety Policies. Implementing and fostering the coaching and development of employees, including idea generation, within respective functional areas. Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and all customers. Performing work on wastewater treatment plants and sewer collection system. Maintaining work records and preventative maintenance records and preparing various reports as assigned. Participating in the preparation of compliance reporting and assisting in project development for WWTP plant improvements. Performing other related functions assigned or as they become apparent. Knowledge/Skills include: Ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise the work of employees. Extensive knowledge of MS Office products, MS Word and Excel, and be able to learn the use of new software with training assistance. Ability to plan and present safety training to employees. Employee may be required to work shift work and maintain on-call assignments. There will be some weekend, holiday, and overtime work as needed. Extensive knowledge of the objectives, equipment, and operations of wastewater collection systems. Extensive knowledge of methods and materials of wastewater system construction and maintenance. Thorough knowledge of the layout, location, and equipment characteristics of wastewater systems. Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations for areas of responsibility. Experience/Education includes: Must possess a high school diploma or GED. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for experience. At least five (5) years experience in a supervisory role in operations, maintenance, and administration of wastewater systems and treatment. Certifications & Licenses include: Possession of appropriate licenses as required by facility/permit. Must possess a valid Maryland Department of Environment Class 4 Water Treatment License. Must possess a valid state drivers license. Work Environment includes: May be required to work indoor or outdoor work during seasonal heat and cold or other adverse weather conditions. May be required to work where they may be exposed to fumes, dust, and odors regularly. In addition to American Waters pre-employment screenings, this position requires the ability to pass a Department of Defense background check for access to the military installation.
