Certified Medication Aide
Overview: A Certified Medication Aide administers medications to residents/elders in a nursing home under direction of a licensed nurse. The Certified Medication Aide works as a Certified Nursing Assistant - CNA/STNA when Certified Medication Aide duties are completed or not needed. At Otterbein, you are not an employee. Shifts: PRN Key Responsibilities of position are below: Prepare and administer medication as ordered by physician: oral and topical medications, nasal drops and sprays, ointments to eyes, ears or nose, inhalants delivered by inhalers, nebulizers or aerosols that allow for a single dose of a fixed, premeasured amount of mediation, rectal and vaginal medications Administer previously ordered pro re nata (PRN) medication only if authorization is obtained from the licensed nurse on duty or on call. Document in a resident's clinical record: all medications that the Certified Medication Aide personally administered, observations including what the Certified Medication Aide sees, hears or smells, any information that is reported to the Certified Medication Aide by the resident. Report to the licensed nurse: any abnormalities that would prohibit medication administration, any reactions and side effects to medications exhibited by a resident, any refusal of a resident to comply with medication administration. Perform Treatments. Count, administer and document-controlled substances. Provide direct nursing care to the elders and residents as a Certified Nursing Assistant - CNA/STNA when not needed to perform Certified Medication Aide duties. Perform other duties as assigned. Special Skills and Requirements Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to change. Must be detail oriented and have excellent literacy and writing, documentation, communications and interpersonal abilities. Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress related to working with persons who are ill, disabled, elderly and/or emotionally upset. Must be able to communicate in English (speak, hear, write). Qualifications Licensure/Certification:
Current OH Certified Medication Aide Certification, CMA, Current, active OH Certified Nursing Assistant CNA/STNA Certification. Must be on the Ohio Nurse Aide Registry. Education:
High school diploma desired Experience with Electronic Medical Records; PCC experience highly preferred Licensure:
Ohio active CMA (Certified Medication Aide) certification, CPR and active Certified Nursing Assistant - CNA/STNA certification. Experience:
