Lead, Food Service Worker works within the borders of Food & Nutrition Services. Duties may include responsibilities related to cooking, cleaning, food preparation, food delivery, and interacting with patients and their family. Defined assignments vary depending on the area of assignment. Job Specific Responsibilities Daily assignments may include but are not limited to: Plans and participates in planning menus and utilization of food surpluses and leftovers taking account of probable number of guests, marketing conditions, popularity of various dishes and menu cycle. Serves as team lead to staff, orienting and training new staff on department practices. May assist Supervisor with scheduling and coordinating assignments. Assist in planning and preparing menu options, including hot and cold entrees, for patients, cafeteria, and catering. Set up and maintain serving line in a timely manner, ensuring proper stock of menu options, service ware, and temperatures are within acceptable ranges. Ensure cafeteria sitting rooms and beverage areas to ensure neatness and sanitization. Coordinate the preparation, physical set-up, delivery, breakdown, and quality control of hospital catering events. Ensures proper logging, charting, production sheets, and other documentation is adhered to for food safety and sanitation requirements. Maintains and adheres to all sanitation standards. All other duties assigned within Food & Nutrition Services. Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED + 3 years relative experience in Food or Customer Service, preferably in a hospital setting + 1 year experience leading people and/or processes Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations: Food Service handler's certification obtained through the Texas Department of Health Skills and Abilities: Good planning, organizational and ability to follow-through until a process is complete. Ability to multitask, assess and adjust quickly to changing priorities. Ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently. Excellent customer service skills; Must speak, read, and write English Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships: Internal: Requires close interaction with various departments within UMC External: Requires interaction with vendors, outside suppliers, and patients to facilitate the production of Food & Nutrition Services. Physical Capabilities: Occasionally exerts a small amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull, and move objects. Should be able to lift 50 lbs. Work involves walking and/or standing for prolonged periods of time.
