Career Technical Education Director

SUMTER COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM Title: Career Technical Education Director Qualifications: 1. At least ten (10) years' experience in teaching and vocational school administration. 2. Certification as set by state certification authorities. 3. A master's degree, and preferably one year of graduate work beyond the master's degree. 4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Reports To: Superintendent Supervises: Vocational Program Staff Job Goal: To provide students enrolled in the vocational education program with education and training of sufficient excellence to enable them upon graduation to enter the job market with well-developed skills, varied intellectual interests, and sufficient understanding and curiosity to continue their growth and maturation as a worker and as an individual. Performance Responsibilities: 1. Recommends and develops new programs and curricula in vocational education. 2. Investigates and reports on funding opportunities available for such programs. 3. Administers and coordinates work-study and work experience programs, and counsels students and employees involved in such programs. 4. Evaluates vocational programs and makes recommendations concerning additions and changes in such programs. 5. Serves as liaison between the public schools and the local employment community. 6. Establishes representative lay advisory committees as needed. 7. Serves as consultant to the professional staff on matters pertaining to vocational information and on the interpretation of laws affecting vocational education. 8. Assists in the recruitment and screening of vocational teachers. 9. Prepares or supervises all reports required to be filed with state education agencies in connection with vocational education. 10. Prepares and administers the departmental budget. 11. Supervises the evaluation of all teachers in the vocational education program. Terms of Employment: Ten, eleven, or twelve month year. Salary and work year to be according to current schedule. Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.
