Position Overview

A high-acuity trauma team at a leading coastal New Jersey hospital is seeking a skilled Physician Assistant to provide inpatient trauma coverage on a locum tenens basis. This is a procedure-focused role within a Level II Trauma Center. Candidates must have recent trauma or surgical critical care experience and be capable of managing high-acuity patients independently. Shifts are 12 hours with a consistent 3-day workweek and a greater emphasis on nights. Temporary privileges are available for a quick start.

Assignment Highlights
  • Level II Trauma Center - inpatient only

  • 3 shifts per week (12 hours each) - consistent 36-hour week

  • Schedule mix: 60% night shifts / 40% day shifts

  • No call responsibilities

  • Typical patient load: 10-25 per shift

  • Required procedures: central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, wound repair

  • No first assist required

  • Critical care physician on service during daytime

  • Temporary privileges available

  • Orientation before first shift

  • HPA Healthcare is a Joint Commission-certified agency

Skills & Experience
  • Active New Jersey PA license - Required

  • DEA and CDS registrations - Required

  • ATLS, ACLS, and PALS (AHA only) - Required

  • At least 2 years of recent trauma, SICU, or ED experience - Required

  • Proficiency in bedside procedures - Required

  • Ability to work independently in a high-acuity setting

  • Strong team communication and EMR documentation skills
