Arc Health is currently seeking three mission-driven Orthopedic Surgeons to join our team in Gallup, New Mexico . We are in the proposal stage and actively gathering interest from qualified providers who are passionate about delivering high-quality care in underserved settings. Facility Overview Located on the border of the Navajo Nation, this 99-bed Indian Health Service (IHS) hospital is one of the busiest in the IHS system:
  • Over 250,000 outpatient visits and 5,800 inpatient admissions annually
  • Comprehensive clinical services, including Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Orthopedics, OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, and more
  • The largest staff among Navajo Area IHS facilities
Location: Gallup is a vibrant southwestern city offering access to national parks, hiking, camping, and skiing. It's just two hours from Albuquerque and provides a unique blend of cultural richness and outdoor adventure. Population: 23,000. Position Overview Schedule:
  • Monday to Friday, 7:30 8:00 AM to 4:00 4:30 PM
  • A combination of clinic and OR time (typically 60% clinic / 40% OR)
  • Variable schedule based on facility needs, with advance notice
  • On-call duties shared with staff surgeons, including weekend and holiday coverage
Volume:
  • Inpatient Census: 0 3 patients/day
  • Clinic Volume: patients/day
  • Surgeries: 5 15 cases/month
  • On-call: Average of 4 6 weeknights and 2 3 weekends/month
Call Expectations:
  • 24-hour call coverage during scheduled nights/weekends
  • Weekend call includes rounding on inpatients, if applicable
  • Call schedule determined by the Chief of Orthopedic Surgery or designee
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient orthopedic care in clinic, wards, and OR settings
  • Diagnose, treat, and manage musculoskeletal conditions across all age groups (90% adult / 10% pediatric)
  • Perform common orthopedic procedures, including treatment of upper and lower extremity fractures
  • Attend outpatient clinic sessions and develop individualized treatment plans
  • Prescribe medications in accordance with Federal and U.S. Public Health Service policies
  • Collaborate with other medical disciplines such as Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and General Surgery
  • Offer consultative services to internal clinics and other IHS units as needed
  • Ensure appropriateness of drug therapy and patient safety
Compensation (All-Inclusive):
  • $265/hour for clinical work
  • $265 flat rate for weeknight or overnight call
  • $1,800 flat rate per 24-hour weekend call
  • $265/hour for call-back hours
Requirements
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Orthopedic Surgery
  • Completion of an accredited orthopedic residency
  • Any active, unrestricted U.S. medical license
  • Active DEA , ACLS , and BLS certifications
  • Valid driver s license
  • Must pass a background check and meet facility health requirements
  • Clean NPDB report
  • Minimum of 24 months of physician experience , including 12 months in orthopedic surgery (unless otherwise approved)
