Position Title: Senior Director of Individual and Institutional Giving

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

Location: Hybrid, Office Location, Reston, VA

Position Summary

The Senior Director of Individual and Institutional Giving is a key member of SNMMI’s senior leadership team and is responsible for driving all aspects of the Society’s philanthropic revenue strategy. Reporting directly to the CEO, this individual leads the development and execution of fundraising initiatives, focusing on both individual and institutional donors.

The Senior Director is charged with generating new revenue streams while maintaining and growing existing support to advance SNMMI’s mission. This leader will translate strategic goals into actionable plans, managing a wide scope of fundraising activities with precision, creativity, and a deep understanding of nonprofit development principles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of SNMMI’s strategic fundraising plan, with a focus on individual and institutional giving.
  • Secure annual unrestricted and restricted contributions from individuals and foundations.
  • Design and implement a national calendar of targeted fundraising events and oversee the execution of the events.
  • Establish and manage a planned giving program.
  • Collaborate with SNMMI’s Fundraising Board and executive leadership to develop, implement, and evaluate both annual and long-term fundraising strategies.
  • Create and maintain development policies and procedures aligned with SNMMI guidelines and industry best practices.
  • Oversee donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts to build and sustain long-term relationships.
  • Direct donor and gift database management to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and strategic use of data.
  • Forecast, allocate, and monitor development budgets in alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Supervise a small team of development professionals; manage workflows, projects, and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship, performance evaluation, and professional development for team members, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • CFRE certification is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, including success in major gifts, annual giving, and foundation relations.
  • Demonstrated success in planning and executing comprehensive fundraising campaigns.
  • Experience in a health-related association or nonprofit strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expertise in all aspects of fundraising, including annual giving, planned giving, major gifts, grants, and events.
  • Strong strategic planning and analytical skills.
  • Deep understanding of compliance and regulations related to physician-directed philanthropy and continuing medical education (CME) support.
  • Proven ability to develop, manage, and execute work plans with measurable goals and timelines.
  • Strong administrative, budgeting, and resource allocation capabilities.
  • Effective leadership and team-building skills; able to manage up, down, and across.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with donor database systems (iMIS preferred) and fundraising platforms.
  • Experience using statistical marketing models and data-driven strategies is a plus.

Travel Requirements

  • Occasional travel is required. Candidates should expect overnight stays (5–7 nights) during SNMMI’s Annual and Mid-Winter Meetings.
  • Additional travel may be required for donor cultivation, site visits, and partner meetings.
  • Represents SNMMI at events, corporate and donor meetings, and other key engagements.

Training & Tools

  • Must be willing to learn SNMMI’s internal systems, including:
  • OSR (budgeting software)
  • CMS (Content Management System)

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • This is a full-time position based in a professional office environment (remote or hybrid options may be considered).
  • Must be able to perform standard office functions and attend meetings virtually and in person as required.
